DSL service was down most of this week and customer service was down to
its usual standards.
It died Monday morning while I was checking newsgroups. I waited an hour
or so before calling customer service. In the meantime I had swapped out
an identical modem/router with no effect. It established a link with the
DSL modem on the other end (excellent signal quality) but nothing past
that. (I went through this same drill last month but service returned in
a few hours.) After the usual runaround, plus a pitch for Hyperlink, I
was told it would be 24 to 48 hours.
So I call Wednesday. More nonsense but I am told to expect a technician
between 8AM and 5PM Thursday. (It seemed as though he wanted someone out
to check the line, which I kept saying was perfect.)
So nothing happens of course. I call again Thursday evening and the
story this time is that AT&T told him their was an outage and to expect
it to be fixed on the 16th. (Saturday)
The last time AT&T had an outage around here it was due to a fire in
their Richardson, TX facility taking out both primary and backup power.
Which made the local news. No news this time.
I tried finding something via a smartphone but those screens are just
too damn small so maybe I missed it. But no news of an outage.
Then it magically comes back about 11:30AM Friday. No news yet from
customer service. They usually call back for some stupid reason.
