It has been hypothesized that the total solar eclipse associated with
the Crucifixion of Jesus occurred in March 33AD, however there are two
major problems with this: first, that was not visible from Jerusalem;
and second, the Roman censuses [Jesus was born during one] were held
every five years - 8BCE, 3BCE, etc. - so the dating is probably late,
although Jesus did return to Nazareth at thirty (signifying spiritual
maturity) and preached about three years. Much more likely is the
total solar eclipse in year 29AD, 24 November, whose point of totality
was very near Jerusalem, where it would have definitely been observed
dramatically. It has been noted that presuming the Jewish lunar
month began with a New Moon, the Last Supper would have been the time
of a Full Moon, during which a solar eclipse of any kind by definition
cannot occur. However, the Jewish hierarchy was under Roman dominion:
it is known that following Roman methods, the reigns of kings and
emperors were antedated to Tishri One (Jewish New Year) of the
previous year - this could easily account for the entire Hebrew
calendar being out of synch with the seasons.
The question of the particular lunar phase at the start of the month
appears again to point to Rome, since although the Roman months
originally began with a New Moon like that of the Hebrews, by the 5th
century BCE the Romans ignored lunar phases, concerned with an
eight-day marketing week. And in the 1st century BCE practices had
begun such as ocassionally adding a 28-day month to keep up with the
seasons, and the calendar being altered for political reasons to
change the term of certain officials. So Roman occupation and
interference with the Hebrew calendar makes it impossible to know
whether that month began (incorrectly) on a Full Moon, so that the
Last Supper was the time of the New Moon, when a total solar eclipse
can happen.
Of course the principal mystery is why it was reported the eclipse
lasted three hours, from the sixth to ninth hours (noon 'til three);
the accounts cannot be interpreted as darkness from clouds for three
hours with an eclipse is the midst of it, so we must consider the
necessary mechanics of such an incredible feat. For such a thing to
occur, the Moon would have to retrograde coindicentally to extend the
duration of the eclipse totality! It seems hard to believe, but there
is a corollary in the book of Joshua (whose Hebrew name is nearly
identical to Jesus) , wherein the patriarch lengthened a day to gain
advantage during a battle, which astronomers recently confirmed was
the effect of a retrograde Sun circa 1024BCE...
These notions may explain through faith, but even if the concept of
the retrograde Moon were true it only serves to enhance understanding
of an enigmatic occurrence. Given the unusual facts, an
extraordinary conclusion can be the most logical.

Do astronomers confirm that such an event has actually happened, based on
research, or that this is what would need to have happened to fit the
descriptions given in the bible (which is, for all intents and purposes,
pooh-poohing the story of Joshua itself)?

A BRITISH inquiry into two trailers found in northern Iraq has found they are
not mobile germ warfare labs, but were for the production of hydrogen to fill
artillery balloons, the Observer newspaper has reported.
The London-based weekly newspaper said the conclusion by biological weapons
experts was an embarrassment for Prime Minister Tony Blair, who has claimed the
discovery of the labs proved that Iraq retained weapons of mass destruction and
justified the case for going to war against Saddam Hussein.
A British scientist and biological weapons expert, who examined the trailers in
Iraq, told the Observer: "They are not mobile germ warfare laboratories.
"You could not use them for making biological weapons. They do not even look
like them. They are exactly what the Iraqis said they were - facilities for the
production of hydrogen gas to fill balloons."
Blair has for weeks been forced to defend himself against allegations by the
media that his office embellished intelligence on Iraq's weapons of mass
destruction to beef up the case for war.
Last week he said he would not appear before a parliamentary foreign affairs
committee probing the claims, but confirmed he would cooperate with a separate
inquiry by parliament's joint intelligence and security committee - which meets
behind closed doors, and whose reports are subject to censorship by Downing
Street.
Australia has also used the discovery of the trailers to justify its role in the
attack on Iraq.
America's CIA said last month the trailers appeared to be designed for germ
warfare, prompting Foreign Minister Alexander Downer to declare their discovery
as "very substantial".
JERUSALEM (Reuters) - Jewish settlers have quietly set up five new outposts in
the West Bank since Israel began dismantling such sites
last week under a U.S.-backed "road map" to peace, an Israeli monitoring group
says.
The planting of more caravans and tents on lonely hilltops has been overshadowed
by the deaths of more than 50 people in a week of
Israeli-Palestinian violence that has battered the peace plan affirmed at a June
4 summit in Aqaba, Jordan.
"(Israeli Prime Minister Ariel) Sharon wasn't serious when he said at the Aqaba
summit that he would dismantle outposts," said Yariv
Oppenheimer of Israel's Peace Now group, which opposes settlements on land
seized in the 1967 Middle East war.
The group, which monitors settlement activity, said only one of the five new
outposts, at Neve Tsuf near the West Bank city of Ramallah, was
inhabited. It was set up near the spot where Palestinian gunmen wounded two
Israeli women on Friday.
Like dozens of other small outposts that have sprouted over the years to extend
the reach of established settlements, the five have not been
authorised by the Israeli government.
"The way it looks now, the people in charge of these areas are the settlers and
no one, not even the Israeli government, is stopping them,"
Oppenheimer said.
The international community views all Jewish settlements on occupied territory
as illegal. Israel disputes this, and settlers maintain they have
a biblical right to the land.
Sharon pledged at the Aqaba talks with Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas
and U.S. President George W. Bush to dismantle
unauthorised outposts, one of the reciprocal confidence-building steps charted
by the peace plan.
Last week, the Israeli army uprooted 10 unauthorised outposts, none of them
inhabited. Palestinian officials dismissed their scrapping as a
cosmetic move.
An Israeli Defence Ministry spokeswoman said there were plans to "dismantle some
other isolated outposts soon" but no decision has
been made as to when and where.
Ezra Rosenfeld, spokesman for YESHA, the umbrella group representing the 200,000
Jewish settlers in the West Bank and Gaza Strip,
declined to comment on the new outposts.
But he vowed: "For every outpost that is dismantled, we will set up two new
ones."

Apparently there was some dissension on this point within the C.I.A.

Can you find two astronomers who will agree?
But just to be on topic what about the coming eclipse in October
Nostradamus raised on this issue, but which year?
