His hometown was Zwickel in the middle of the bavarian Forest close to
Passau. Still famous for the beer (very strong, tasty and it doesn't
give you a hangover the next day ;-)
But there are at least three Versions where he came from and what his
real name was.
1. His real name was Matthias Lang and he was monastery miller thru
Apoig part of the weiland Praemonstratenser-Stiftes.
2. Everybody was calling him Muehlhiasl but his real name was
Stormberger (or Stoaberger) and he was herdsman and ashburner at
Rabenstein (close to Zwickel)
3. He was both monastery miller and ashburner. A prophet with changing
adresses.
You can get more Information (in german) about Zwickel on the
following Web-Pages:

His predictions where not this much straightforward. There are more
like short sentences (Methaphern):
"Und wenn auf dem Zwieseler Kirchturm die Bäume armdicke Stämme haben,
kommt eine schlimme Zeit"
"And if the Trees on top of the Churchtower are thick as a arm a bad
time is comming"
The trees where arm thick and removed 1939 when the second World War
startet.

One of his End-Time predictions was:
"Alle Staedte werden totenstill, auf dem Wiener Stephansplatz waechst
Dill."
"All Towns are going to be sillent. On the Wiener Stephansplace is
growing Dill"
It's a rhyme in german.

There must be more than one because he is still famous. Searching the
Web I found two book titles (unfortunatly both german).
'Die Strafe der Moenche" - Reinhard Haller (1994) Morsak-Verlag
The second is a CD also Dealing with Nostradamus, Daniel ...
Mysterium - ISBN: 3-8032-8910-6 (Windows)
Ther must be also one or more Books from
Xaver Hirtreiter
Mybe you should try to look for titles under:
Mühlhiasl

Bad germans. But Stormberger has never writen a book himself. All was

known in Zwickel.

I asked someone who does library research stuff (Mark Hammons, if some
of you old-timers remember him) about this after I saw your post, Brian,
and he said that, according to his source (OCLC and RLIN), Hogue's
reference appears to be the sole English publication. Sorry.

It seems very unlikely that such a prophet ever existed. The name itself
sounds like something a native English speaker would come up with if he
wanted to invent such a story, since the word "Storm" isn't very common
in german names. I don't know how credible Hogue is, but you should be
aware of the fact that especially in literature about mysticism, UFOlogy
etc. it is very common to take a few rumours, some vague historical
facts and a lot of imagination and write a thrilling book for people
who crave for that sort of thing.

Stormberger sounds very un-Bavarian, even un-German to me. If he called
himself Stoaberger then his name in Hochdeutsch writing was probably
Steinberger.

His name has two other variations in the world catalog:

:: Der Starnberger
:: Sturmberger

He was apparently named after the little town he came from near Bayer.

STORMBERGER in all my life, but years ago knew in Austria a family by the

....Land der Berge, Land der Strome.....etc.
