Unrelated but, I'm feeling a bit upset about the Ryan Grantham.
Well. He's 24. Not really a kid but...
And this being upset is still true, even though he isn't the actor
I had in mind. I'm pretty sure that I had him confused with
someone else. And it doesn't help that I have been unable to
find a single photo from his arrest or trial, so all the photos
are some years old.
Not that the level of tragedy should be dependent on his
relative attractiveness...
I guess it comes down to the fact that the kid is nuts. Period.
The kid is nuts. He's a criminal, he's going to waste away in
prison, won't see freedom for many years and only then if he's
lucky, and his real crime is being nuts.
Should society be doing this?
No I don't think they should just let him go.
"Oh well, you're mentally ill, please try not to murder anyone
else."
Of course he should be removed from society but he should
be removed from society for treatment.
I dunno. Maybe he's beyond treatment. In which case, they
should just lock him away in relative comfort. Safe, as happy
as possible and segregated from the rest of society.
But instead he's punished.
Young. Some success. Pretty handsome in many photos
(malformed in others), we could've been forgiven for being
envious of him... before the shooting. And it's all gone. All of
it. Over.
Nature was very cruel to this boy. And society was even crueler.
