This is representative of the blather that filled the internet in 1999 as
July 1999 passed and the "great terror from the skies" Nostradamus had
predicted was no where to be seen or experienced.

It was that year, in fact, that this group had reached a maximum general
audience and participation was hot and heavy.

But July 1999 passed, and the quatrain that had predicted something
terrifying coming from the skies failed. The world waddled on with the usual
sundry crises and daily machinations of leaders. As the weeks passed, there
were many attempts to "explain" that the prophecy hadn't actually failed,
but was mis-timed, or that the interpretations over the centuries were
really skewered in some manner. It was hailed only as a "starting point"
that might be subtle comparatively to what had been widely expected, but
still, his ardent supporters insisted, it was an important year that marked
a beginning of great dire events to unfold in the years ahead.

However, audience interest and participation at APN noticeably began to drop
and it kept generally dropping over the years, with brief spurts of renewed
interest each time a great dire event occurred. Yet, clearly, to most,
Nostradmaus or at least his many exegist devotees and readers were quite
dismayed and disoriented.

But, true to the undying psychological need among many to believe
humankind's on a divine schedule heading for eventual greatness something
akin to the gods, new fresh interpretations were frantically issued by
Nosty exegists and fans world-wide - their hero hadn't screwed up, they
proclaimed. It was just a manner of re-interpretation, of "clarification"
and "definition." Of relevance. Of whatever else could be conjured up to
renew their faith.

In this article, too, read about how Nostradamus' quatrains were heavily
politicized as war-time propaganda to favor both the Nazis and the Allied
powers. How sweet it is! LOL!

As Nostradamus did not write in English, it is perfectly stupid
to use quotation marks to pretend to quote in English what he
wrote. But Doc, or Gary, or any other name he wishes to be known
as, is/are perfectly stupid.

Actually, it was on September 11, 2001, and during many weeks

More disinformation. In fact, everything which was mentioned in
quatrain X-72, although extremely obscurely, happened exactly as
predicted.
*
1. The total eclipse of the Sun, referred to in lines 1, 2 and 4,
of this quatrain, occurred as expected on August 11, 1999. (A
July date, in the Julian Calendar under which Nostradamus lived.)
*
2. The name of the great king of Angoulïŋ―me came back in the news,
as Eudes, the grandson of the Count of Paris, pretender to the
French throne, got married in July 1999. He is known as the Duke
of Angoulïŋ―me.
*
3. Line 4 of the poem refers to two wars occurring before and
after the eclipse. The war before occurred from March 1999 to
June 1999 between NATO and Yugoslavia. The war after began in
October 1999 between Russia and Chechnya.

What is quatrain X-72 ?

because... they are a polygraphic and steganographic cipher.

Mad Claude, I'm well aware that he wrote in archaic French. The site's
author is the one who is using the English translation. Since French
isn't exactly an everyday language in America among most folks, some
kind of translation is needed lest most readers not spend any effort
attempting computer translations or emailing linguistics professors.
It is the umpteenth time you've mistakenly called me stupid, whether
"perfectly" or not. LOL!

No, Mad Claude, the most sustained period of high traffic and
participation was caused by the prolonged pre-1999/millennial
interpretations of the ol' fart's quatrains. It was, after all, the
trendy rage across the planet - millennial angst - that helped fuel not
only interest in the ol' gas bag's predictions but any other "seer",
including Cayce among many. The 9-11 bubble didn't last nearly as long.
OH, but where is the terror from the sky? Eh? Are you thinking that a
small cross-border war, pedestrian as it was, somehow was significant in
world history? Or that the ethnically fueled breakaway Chechnya conflict
somehow was significant, too? Just the usual wars, Claude.
Neither caused any global consternation, and certainly the aftermath has
been uneventful historically. Routine warfare that one can find in any
compressed time period over the decades.

July 1999 passed, and to just give the ol' fart and his fans some slack,
there was nothing terrifying coming from the sky months prior or months
after July. Although there was a huge amount of speculation from fans
and scholars about a routine comet that year. I don't recall any terror
of anything in the skies. And my research shows nothing.

Face up to it, Mad Claude, the ol' fart blew it. Had he not precisely
dated it, the imprecision of it could've drifted in his favor, given the
rabidness of people like you attempting to make him into the King of Seers.
LOL!

A King that slipped off his throne that year. You might note that the
article cuts him considerable slack, as Guernon, you, and a host of
others did for months afterward - as you incredibly still do today.

The power of obsession and fervent belief lead to self-delusion, Claude,
you ol' weirdo.

quatrain X-72:

>Mad Claude, I'm well aware that he wrote in archaic French.
*
Actually, he didn't. He wrote in meaningful gobbledygook because
his poetry and prose are enciphered. But you can't tell
because... you're an American, i.e., you know next to nothing
about other languages. So you read 'translations' of Nostradamus'
texts.
*
>------------------------------------------------------- Since French
>isn't exactly an everyday language in America among most folks, some
>kind of translation is needed lest most readers not spend any effort
>attempting computer translations or emailing linguistics professors.
>It is the umpteenth time you've mistakenly called me stupid, whether
>"perfectly" or not. LOL!
*
As you have just finished demonstrating how stupid you are, it is
very hard not to observe that you are. Here is why it is not a
mistake to call you stupid:
*
1. You assume that Nostradamus' texts ARE NOT enciphered. So,
there is no problem reading someone else's rendition in English
of what that someone else thinks they are supposed to say. So,
having assumed that they are NOT enciphered, you conclude... ta-
daaa!!! that they are not enciphered. First element of perfect
stupidity.
*
2. Secondly, as you have convinced yourself that these texts ARE
NOT enciphered, you have decided that anyone who thinks otherwise
just be mad. As there is safety in numbers (a pack of wolves
behave in a similar manner) you join the crowd who is too stupid
to realize that these texts ARE enciphered.
*
3. Thirdly, with respect to quatrain X-72 specifically, as you
have commented on it, you do not ask yourself WHY so many
different commentators have reached so many different conclusions
about this text. You just stupidly state that obvious fact. So,
you remain in ignorance of the fact that the reason why they
reach different conclusions is that they are commenting AN
ENCIPHERED TEXT! But, as we have already seen, you dismiss that
possibility. Is this not enough reasons to call you stupid?
*
As I have stated that quatrain X-72 is a steganographic and
polygraphic cipher, I shall demonstrate it once more:
*

You've obviously forgotten all about the fact I've been reading your
fucking goobly-gok for many years - your self-proclaimed revolutionary
discovery of a secret encryption which supposedly is, according to your
arrogant bloated self, the final undeniably effective interpretative
key. Well, your blathering over the years of what you think Nostradamus
meant with his goddamned goobly-gok has been no more accurate than that
piece of exegist shithead, John Hogue. LOL!
And that's an incontrovertible fact, colossal brain.
It's just too fucking bad we can't accelerate your predicted scenario to
the much earlier point of this August, not 2017's, and see you wiggle
around trying to explain why Paris wasn't destroyed by a mis-programmed
U.S. nuke missile.
As it is, we have to wait over 4 years to laugh at you. I will, however,
laugh at you now, knowing fully well such a ridiculous childishly
conceived scenario will not happen, nor could it ever.
And also feel a bit sad that your psychotic personality, and
overwhelming egotism, will accompany the finish of your miserable life
span with you senselessly babbling in a nursing home, with your butt
plopped over a bed pan:
"Paris will be destroyed by a nuclear missile from the horrid Americans'
sloppy military on August 17, 2023, when a stupid nervous young soldier
punches in the wrong launch code."
Nurses and other aides will laugh behind your back, and fellow residents
will snicker as you are wheeled up and down the smelly corridors.
"There goes Mad Claude, the decryption King of Nostradamus' bullshit."

The "predictions" have been as wrong as your's! Whatever could it be,
then, Mad Claude, that has caused so much error on such a
self-proclaimed assurance that such codes exist? Well, of course, the
obvious answer is - shaking off outright fraud for a moment - is that
these guys are as self-deluded and/or stupid as you are! It seemed at
the outset of the Torah Code that the predictions found to have come
true to some high degree of accuracy gave substance to the ones not yet
fulfilled. But, as the years wore on, the Torah Code failed to reveal
the future any more accurately than your or anyone's interpretative
systems - from psychics who claim to be in contact with his spirit to
characters like you.
I'd like to see you submit this encryption to a bunch of scientists at
the National Academy of Sciences and read their analyses and
conclusions. I'd fully expect they'd have nothing more to say than, "It
has no scientific validity whatsoever."
And to which you'd likely answer, "Because the discipline you use to
analyze it is outside the realm of your limited knowledge and ability."
Harumph! King Claude has triumphed against the stupidity of science once
again! Hail Claude! LOL!

I know they are not enciphered. Any asshole can devise a system to make
it appear they are, as the Torah De-coders have foolishly or
fraudulently done. As it has been proven, such concoctions can be made
of any weighty text, such as Tolstoy's War and Peace tome.
Add heavy sprinkles of personal prejudice, and there you have a "secret
code" revealed for all the profits and fame of the de-coder!

That's not why I severely doubt it, at all. I know fully well that, as
I've previously outlined above, that anyone can devise a system to make
it appear a code exists. It is a proved fact, Mad Claude. You've either
badly deluded yourself or you're a damned fraud.
OH! That was widely known. LOL! Obscure, arcane, minor crap that is the
refuge of failed interpreters. One can search the world and find
substance in such triviality, but it shows desperation to prove what is
claimed as a prediction.
I submit once again to you, slippery Claude - a regular astronomical
event such as a solar eclipse doesn't terrify, nor does a minor comet
(as the Millennial Group's author babbled about) - none of it will
qualify as a "terror from the sky" to appear in July 1999.
It just doesn't work, you fool.
And they'd be fucking right, you hear? LOL!

Of course it does not. This is yet another disinformation
technique called conversion. If you can't win the argument using
the truth, you try to convert the argument into another one which
you are certain to win. In this case, you convert a literary
phenomenon (which is not science) into an alleged scientific
phenomenon (which it is not). As a result, you are able to
conclude as if a valid scientific fact had been established. Only
fools fall into this trap. It had been tried with astrology,
quite some time ago, and it failed.
*
You may note that I have not alluded to the fact that your
National Academy of Science is probably devoid of any members
able to deal with this issue, as it involves a superb knowledge
of the French language, which they do not possess. I have not
hung my hat onto that feeble argument, as France also has her so-
called scientific experts, and the argument would not have been
applicable to them. Fortunately, the previous argument also
applies to them. You can't convert a pseudo-scientific phenomenon
into a scientific one, just for the fun of winning the argument.

Statistics might be of some help in assessing whether certain
words might be used more frequently than they might have been
used in ordinary language (I have done so, and it demonstrates
certain oddities in the use of some words in Nostradamus'
quatrains). It does not PROVE that Nostradamus' quatrains are
enciphered, but it supports that idea.

For the record, you might consider that the French word GUERRE

that the expression LA FROCE CHINE (the ferocious China) can fit

HO HO! You use an analytical process to achieve a probable result. That
is science, not literature.
The Torah Code boys and girls are working a process in the same vein.
That is considered to be a pseudo-science. The researchers claim it is
actually science.
Pseudo or established, it is a scientific process that is claimed of
some sort, whether your personal prejudices affect it or not.
No scientific process can be virginal in its data collection, analysis,
and conclusions drawn from such. That is why we have scientists
disagreeing with each others' processes and results.
Typically, a long period of testing nails the theory down to scientific
fact, but not without die-hard dissenters.
To attempt to steer your process into an exclusively "literary" one, you
subvert your own case for discovering, utilizing, and drawing
conclusions on your decipherment process.
What your decipherment is, is of a literary work - but your process is a
form of science.
Science is defined as:
The observation, identification, description, experimental
investigation, and theoretical explanation of phenomena
The phenomena in your case is one of a a text you claim holds a secret
code that you claim to have found and know how to glean predictions from
it via decryption.
A list of pseudosciences include what you are involved in - the
phenomenon by which the quatrains were produced is by astrology and ESP
- which you study as an exegist using a decryption process you've devised:

Extra-sensory perception is the paranormal ability (independent of the
five main senses or deduction from previous experience) to acquire
information by means such as telepathy, clairvoyance, precognition,
psychic abilities, and remote viewing.
Astrology refers to any of several systems of understanding,
interpreting and organizing knowledge about reality and human existence,
based on the relative positions and movement of various real and
construed celestial bodies.
http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/List_of_pseudosciences

A pseudoscience is defined as:
PSEUDOSCIENCE research is almost invariably exegesis. That is, the
pseudoscientist clips new or old newspaper reports, collects hearsay and
questionable memories, reads other pseudoscience books, or thumbs
through ancient religious or mythological works. The pseudoscientist
never or rarely ever makes an independent investigation to check his
sources. They are taken at face value, or even better interpreted as
symbolic, so that the pseudoscientist can use them as a kind of
Rorshach inkblot reading into the myths and old texts anything he wants
to find in them. Some areas of pseudoscience are generated by very
simplistic literalism the use of inherited sacred texts as if they
were contemporary science textbooks, a practice that leads to the flat
earth, the earth at the center of the universe, Creationism, Intelligent
Design and a number of other completely foolish but resolutely
traditional claims about man and nature.
http://www.skeptically.org/skeptics/id6.html

And that includes an ol' fart that long ago claimed to know the future
of humanity.

What you do is exegesis.
Exegesis is defined as:
exegesis
Critical explanation or interpretation of a text, esp. of scripture.
You've claimed to have found a code to interpret via decryption - a
process which is a form of science.
Decryption is defined as:
decoding: the activity of making clear or converting from code into
plain text.
Decoding is part of a scientific process, as I said, whether it is
prejudiced or faulty or "pseudo".
Characterizing what you do as something wholly literary ignores the
scientific process.
Definition: The scientific method is a series of steps scientists take
to acquire, test, and describe something.
The process or method includes all of the following:

Step 1: Ask questions in the form of a hypothesis
You've done this by your own admission, asking whether the quatrains
hold something not readily apparent. You form a hypothesis that the
quatrains hold hidden encrypted information.

Step 2: Look for patterns in observations
You then set about looking for "patterns" in the terminology,
structure, etc. of the quatrains.

Step 3: Formulate a theory
You then find what you think has been hidden, and begin to test it by
the events the information predicts. You make it known to others, as
well to help validate it. Time passes and either the prediction is valid
or it is not according to the date it was supposed to occur. You then
think it might need to be reworked, that something is missing, something
is misinterpreted. You try again and test predictions for accuracy,
attempting to...

Step 4.

...verify your theory, and then go about further refinement, adjustment,
and revision that may be needed, you think. It is a theory or work in
progress you claim. Flawed, but you claim you have the essence of
Nostradamus' true (and hidden) predictions. As you present at this site:

http://web.ncf.ca/cj559/

...for all the world to admire. LOL! How smart and industrious is that
colossal exegist brain called Claude, eh?

"Look at me", says a beaming Claude, "I've got the working formula by
which Nostradamus' once long misunderstood, incomplete visions have now
become much more clear! Hooray for me!"

So, exegist, sir, what you are is also a pseudoscientist working an
analytical process, decryption according to a paradigm you've devised or
utilized from some other "researcher." You somewhat mirror what a true
scientist does, but obviously prefer to claim you're only an exegist.

Actually, what you really are, I believe, is a right-wing nutjob that
hates humanity enough to harass it with what you call decrypted
predictions of a seer...when in fact, you are the seer, sir, hiding
behind him, with all your prejudices, fears, and hatred thinly veiled as
decrypted quatrains.

When you finally start getting some of the predictions right, then maybe
I might think differently. No more grasping at straws, going about the
media trying to find something, anything to validate the 1999 failed
prediction, no matter how absurd or stretched beyond any reason.

LOLOL!! ;))

One of the the worst acorn heads in PsychoLand I've ever found on the
usenet.

But somewhat entertaining. Mad Claude, a phenomenon unto himself.

At the risk of becoming boring, on Mon, 20 May 2013 16:04:26
-0700, Doc <mfuf...@yahoo.com> wrote in part about what he
thinks other people are thinking, a piece of modern-day fascism:
*
>HO HO! You use an analytical process to achieve a probable result. That
>is science, not literature.
*
What probable result? You yourself are trumpeting that
Nostradamus did not encipher his works. In that context there can
be NO probable result. In that context, it cannot be science. And
that is my position: it is NOT science. It is literature, period.
*
If it were science, I would be able to prove that Nostradamus'
works are enciphered, because they are. But I can't, for the same
reason anyone can't prove that they are not, because... it is not
science, it is literature, period.
*
>The Torah Code boys and girls are working a process in the same vein.
>That is considered to be a pseudo-science. The researchers claim it is
>actually science.
*
You can't even stick to the issue you are discussing. If you are
interested in lambasting 'the Torah Code boys and girls' find
yourself a NewsGroup where they peddle their ware, don't beother
me with their contentions, I don't care about them.
*
>Pseudo or established, it is a scientific process that is claimed of
>some sort, whether your personal prejudices affect it or not.
*
And, of course, your personal prejudices have nothing to do with
your own claims, eh?
*
>No scientific process can be virginal in its data collection, analysis,
>and conclusions drawn from such. That is why we have scientists
>disagreeing with each others' processes and results.
*
You are repeating yourself. YOU claim that it is a scientific
process, I claim that it is not. The only 'data collection'
involved is the reading of Nostradamus' original texts, nothing
else.
*
>Typically, a long period of testing nails the theory down to scientific
>fact, but not without die-hard dissenters.
*
There is nothing to test. I claim Nostradamus used the line-based
cryptic anagram in the making of all of his published works, YOU
(and many others) claim that he did not. There is nothing to
test. If there were, YOU would be able to test my contention and
prove it wrong. YOU can't for the same reason I can't: There is
nothing to test.
*
>To attempt to steer your process into an exclusively "literary" one, you
>subvert your own case for discovering, utilizing, and drawing
>conclusions on your decipherment process.
*
It merely throws a monkey-wrench into the gears of your attempt
at converting a non-scientific issue into a pseudo-scientific
one.
*
>What your decipherment is, is of a literary work - but your process is a
>form of science.
*
Deciphering an enciphered text cannot possibly be any form of
science whatsoever. YOU have successfully demonstrated that it
cannot be so. How? By claiming that I am totally mad in asserting
that Nostradamus' works are enciphered. If it were a process
susceptible of being scientifically tested, YOU would not have
had to resort to *ad hominem* attacks upon the person making the
assertion, YOU would have used a scientific process to 'debunk'
it.
*
So as to contribute more than a repeated assertion/denial of the
encipherment/decipherment issue, here are some of the suggestions
made by other contributors to this NewsGroup (and other groups)
over the some 15 years of discussions about it:
*
1. One can find cryptic anagrams in poetry and prose by authors
other than Nostradamus; thus, finding them in Nostradamus' texts
does not prove anything. Reply: I agree.
*
2. One can find many variations in the manner in which
Nostradamus got his works to be printed, even in the very same
edition of his Prophecies. Thus, one cannot use these different
printings and at the same time claim that they hide the same
text. Reply: I used these variations from the same edition, and
-- lo and behold -- they allow the same text to be discovered.
Only Nostradamus knew that his variations would produce the same
result.
*
3. The line-based cryptic anagram is such a 'loose' method of
encipherment that one can 'find' anything one wants to find in
it. Reply: As I have used ALL the known frontpages from ALL known
works by Nostradamus and thus found hidden in ALL of them the
circumstances of the unintended destruction of Paris, I challenge
anyone to use the very same frontpages, applying therein the same
method of the line-based cryptic anagram, and find therein A
DIFFERENT PROPHECY, ALWAYS THE SAME, EVERYWHERE. Thus, one would
have demonstrated the truth of the statement above. So far, no
one has dared to do so. For the readers of this NewsGroup, ALL
these decipherments and ALL these frontpages are available at the
website whose address follows:
*
http://web.ncf.ca/cj559/
*
And I suspect (but this is not a very scientific statement) that
the most vociferous critics of the proposition that Nostradamus
used the line-based cryptic anagram to encipher ALL the lines
from ALL of his texts have declined to use this method to
demonstrate the truth of their own statement above [i.e., that
the line-based cryptic anagram is such a 'loose' method of
encipherment that one can 'find' anything one wants to find in
it] because they knew that it was false. To summarize: they are a
bunch of hypocrites.
*
Not a very scientific statement either.
*
Have a nice day!

He's a tragic lost cause, I'm afraid. Confirmation bias, (his inner
'Yes Man') leads him to find within the texts the very things that
reinforce his beliefs.
