Imagine! Most of the lost books formerly owned by this famous
Nostradamus scholar became available! The catalogue included
about 120 books, many of them early editions of "Les Propheties"
and many others very rare Almanachs; in some cases, the only copy
known to have survived the passage of time.
What were the chances to get some of the lots? Very slim, as the
auctioneer had forecast a very busy day.
But who was Daniel Ruzo?
He was a Peruvian lawyer and businessman with a passion for the
esoteric; he had spent many years in France, engaging in book-
hunting all over the world. As a result, he had assembled the
finest private collection that would be difficult, if not
impossible, to duplicate today.
A large part of these books came from another auction, held in
Paris in 1931, from the Rigaux collection, another famous
nostradamian of the XIXth century; after more than seventy years,
we therefore had the possibility of seeing on the market some of
the most extraordinary Nostradamus books.
Some months ago, I had been able to secure seven books from his
collection. But April 23 was to be the most exciting day in my
hunt for lost Nostradamus books.
The auction started at 3.00 pm (British Time); the first book was
a photocopy of an old book (of which I already had a copy) called
the 'Orus Apollo', not a very important item, but a test for
seeing how much participants were willing to bid.
One hundred and seventy-five (Blimey!) dollars for a copy which
you can see free on my website (www.propheties.it): quite an
extraordinary result!
The second book? The only subsisting copy of a 1554 Almanach,
estimated at about $1,500. dollars. It went up to... $11,000.
(Double blimey!!) No chance for me to get that one.
Then, I decided to play a rather risky game: to drain some of
my competitors, I pushed up the bids for the first dozen of items,
in the hope that they would go away, having spent more than they
could afford.
The fourth lot was estimated at about 3 to 4,000 dollars: it
reached $16,000. The fifth book was an Almanach, estimated at
$2,000., which went for $5,000. And so on.
Are you curious to see if my strategy worked? I'll let you be the
judge of that, but in the end, I got 31 lots out of the total of
114. Not bad, considering that 20 to 30 of those were not very
interesting.
What damage did that auction do to my pocketbook?
I had to sell my Corvette to buy them!
Considering that Hector Rigaux had to go without food to afford
the many books he had assembled over the years prior to his death
in 1930, I would say that I am not doing too bad.
And I am very, very happy!
Cheers, Nostradamus fans!

You really can't spot a fraud, Claude.
The message from Mario...surely it strikes you as srange?
An Italian name, an Italian site and yet written in a classical
English 'accent', with just a few small errors, reeks of falsehood.
No-one with such a command of English, true English that is, would
ever refer to his 'wallet' as his 'pocketbook'. This post is destined
for the US market. The stratagy of bidding, the underlying 'get rich
quick' hidden message, must have alerted you.
I fancy you are 'target' now. Be wary. I don't doubt hat this is no
more than a mutation of the simple 'Nigerian cash' story.
I may dislike you, but no-one should fall foul to these passing
parasites.

Relax, there is no foul play going on here. Mario is a highly
respected collector of Nostradamus's works and a member of the
international Nostradamus Research Group.
Hi Claude,
Yeah, it was the lot 65...

Yep, I got a dozen of them tracked down to some bookseller and some
libraries around the world...

Thanks, I 'd like to point it out if you want to be a fraud you need
to use
some fake mail address, and better than that, a very nice pseudonym or
as you wish "a nom of plume" in my particular case I did not...
If you have some time to spend I recommend you to read some pages of
my
website www.propheties.it where you could read some very enlightening
articles
on Nsd.
Cheers Mario
Nope! And you are perfectly right saying that, unfortunately for you,
my purpose
is not to disclose mysterious secrets lost in the past but more
prosaically
is to build the largest virtual library about Nsd... so I need the
books...

Try to read it slowly, if you don't understand it the first time do
not be discouraged!
It's a rather complicate subject, maybe in a couple of times you
will ....

Well, I don't look at those sort of links, and frauds come in very
sophisticated forms.
If I have wronged you, I apologise. It may be of help, however, were
you to not use that ancient abbreviation of 'Blimey'.
I'm 61, yet it's use pre-dated my time! Imagine how out of place it
looked alongside the use of a 'pocketbook'!!
