Attendance: Roughly 1/3rd to half full – so in the neighborhood of 3-4,000
fans.
- WWE Cruiserweight Champion Rey Mysterio Jr. pinned Tajiri with the 619 and
springboard splash into the ring. After the bout, Tajiri took the champion
out with the kick to the head.
- Albert & Sean O’Haire defeated Spanky & Paul London when O’Haire pinned
London with the modified DVD after Spanky lept from the ring onto Albert on
the arena floor. The heels made London look quite good and the younger team
came off looking like an updated version of the Young Stallions or Rockers
as they used their speed and arial abilities to keep their larger opponents
off balance.
- Matt Hardy (w/ Shannon Moore) pinned Orlando Jordan with the Twist of Fate
after Moore tripped Jordan. During his intro, Hardy received the majority
of applause – which he quickly turned into jeers by making fun of Virginia
and Roanoke in particular.
- Nunzio pinned Sho Funaki with a reversal.
- Billy Kidman & Jamie Knoble (w/ Nidia) defeated Doug & Danny Basham (w/
Shaniqua) when Kidman scored the pin with the Shooting Star Press after
Knoble hit a powerbomb on one of the Bashams from the middle turnbuckle.
- WWE US Champion Eddie Guerrero defeated Chris Benoit and John Cena in a
triple threat match by pinning Cena. Moments prior to the finish, Rhyno ran
in the ring and hit the Gore on Benoit – sending him to the floor. Guerrero
soon knocked Rhyno to the floor and, as the referee was busy ordering Rhyno
backstage, the champion knocked Cena in the head with the title belt –
brought in the ring by the challenger – to get the eventual win. All three
men received a large amount of heat during their intros and Cena cut a
classic freestyle on Roanoke, Virginia Tech, and the fans in attendance
prior to the match.
- WWE Smackdown! Tag Team Champions Charlie Haas & Shelton Benjamin defeated
the Acolytes when Bradshaw was pinned after a belt shot. Prior to the
match, Bradshaw alluded to the fact that Benjamin was really Shaniqua.
- Torrie Wilson defeated Nidia, Sable, and Dawn Marie in a bikini contest
where Sho Funaki was the special MC. After the contest, Dawn Marie came to
Torrie’s aid against Sable.
- WWE Smackdown! World Champion Kurt Angle defeated Brock Lesnar via
submission with the modified ankle lock (same version used to defeat Benoit
at the Royal Rumble) after an entertaining, brutal, and exhausting 40
minutes. In an obvious tune-up for the Ironman match this coming week, the
two went all out and held nothing back in what I would easily consider the
greatest match I have ever seen live. Near falls to numerous to mention,
many occasions where even I thought we might have a title change, a
moonsault from Angle, usage of the steel ring steps, etc. I would easily
consider it superior as a whole to their bout at WrestleMania (didn’t see
Summer Slam but there’s potential it was better than that as well). The
crowd was hot for the entire bout, save a small group of fans that chanted
‘boring’ during the headlocks. After the bout, Brock sold the leg injury
for a while before getting on the mic and challenging Angle to come back to
the ring since the challenger was under the impression the match was an
Ironman contest. An amazing bout that easily makes every other main event I
have seen live look like garbage in comparison. Popularity-wise, I would
give the nod to Angle but both men received a huge ovation during their
introductions. It wasn’t until the match began that some in the crowd
started to boo Lesnar.
As a whole, a very solid show. The first few matches were kept short,
obviously to save time for the main event. From start to finish the card
lasted about 2:30. The crowd was hot for the majority of matches.
Photographs from the event will be uploaded soon to

WWE House Show:
Roanoke, VA 9-13-03
By: Stephen Lewis, rajahwwf.com reader
I just got back from the Smackdown brand hose show here in Roanoke, VA
and it was an overall pretty good show with the main event being the
single greatest match I have ever seen live!
1st Match:
WWE Cruserweight Title Match:
Rey Mysterio vs Tajiri
Both men received big pops as they came out. Good action between these
two in what could have been a much better match if given a little more
time. Rey gets the win after hitting the 619 followed by a springboard
splash.
Winner: Rey Mysterio
2nd Match:
A-Train & Sean O'haire vs Spanky & Paul London
It was great seeing Paul London live and the heels done a good job of
making him look good. However the end came after Spanky dove to the
outside onto A-Train while in the ring O'haire hit his finisher on
London for the win.
Winners: A-Train & Sean O'haire
3rd Match:
Matt Hardy w/Shannon Moore vs Orlando Jordan
Good pop for Hardy on his entrance which quickly turned to boos after he
dissed Virginia on the mic. Not a bad match at all but nothing great.
Shannon got in a few shots when Orlando was on the outside. Finish came
when Matt hit a botched Twist of fate for the 3 count.
Winner: Matt Hardy
4th Match:
Nunzio vs Funaki
Worst match of the night but it still wasnt horrible. Nunzio gets the
win after a rollup and a hand full of tights.
Winner: Nunzio
5th Match:
Jamie Noble & Billy Kidman w/Nidia vs The Basham Brothers w/Shaniqua
Everyone got a nice pop upon entrance especially Kidman. Good back and
fourth match which saw Nidia pull Shaniqua off the apron and stomp her
several times. Meanwhile in the ring Noble set up one of the Bashams for
Kidmans Shooting star press which led to the victory.
Winners: Billy Kidman & Jamie Noble
6th Match:
WWE United States Title Match:
Eddie Guerrerro vs Chris Benoit vs John Cena
All 3 men got big pops as they came out. Cena cut an anti Virginia
freestyle which dissed both the University Of Virginia and Virginia
Tech. Eddie then got on the mic and told Cena that they may not be in a
parking lot tonight but he and Benoit could pretend they were and kick
Cenas ass. The two quickly attacked Cena but soon Eddie turned his back
on Benoit and the 3 way match was on. Lots of near falls that got broken
up. Towards the end of the match Rhyno came out and gored Benoit out of
the ring. He then went to gore Eddie who side steeped him sending Rhyno
crashing to the arena floor. As the referee tried to get Rhyno to live
Cena grabbed the US title and swung at Eddie who ducked hit cena with a
kick to the midesection and then a belt shot of his own to pick up the
victory.
Winner: Eddie Guerrerro
7th Match:
WWE Tag Team Title Match:
The Self Proclaimed Worlds Greatest Tag Team vs The APA
Bradshaw once again accused Shelton Benjamin of being Shaniqua by saying
his was trying to get double pay and asking where his wig was. Typical
match here really which ended after Bradshaw hit the clothesline from
hell on Haas but Benjamin hit him in the back with the tag belt for the
win.
Winners; Shelton Benjamin and Charlie Haas
8th Match:
Divas Bikini Contest:
Torrie Wilson vs Dawn Marie vs Nidia vs Sable
Funaki served as the guest MC for this and WOW where these women hot
tonight. Sable went first wearing a very very skimpy outfit consisting
of a backless bikini top and a tiny little g-string. Up next was Nidia
who had on her trademark sneakers and delivered a very strange lap dance
to Sable which got a lot of laughs. Dawn Marie was next and my God was
she hot tonight. She as well was in a very skimpy little thong and she
gave a lap dance to a near fainting Funaki to a huge pop. And finally
was Torrie Wilson who at first disspointed the fans with a full bikini
which she quickly took off exposing a nice little thong on her as well.
Before the judging started Sable said she noticed when Nidia was
grinding her that she had a little more up top than usual and proceeded
to remove the stuffing from Nidias top cause her to run out of the ring.
All 3 other women received a lot of cheers with Torrie Wilson winning.
Sable and Torrie then had a catfight which saw Dawn make the save for
Torrie and the two former rivals shook hands.
Winner: Torrie Wilson
9th Match:
WWE World Title Match:
Kurt Angle vs Brock Lesnar
Better than Wrestlemania and Summerslam this match was incredible! It
was a 40 minute match ( no doubt preparing for the upcoming ironman
match) that saw so many near falls that it had the crowd on the edge of
their seats the entire time. The crowd ripped into Brock by chatting
"You Tapped Out" Lesnar kicked out of two Angle Slams and broke out of
two ankle locks. Angle kicked the ring steps into Lesnars face. Then
Angle kicked out of two F5s from Brock. The end finally came when angle
used the variation of the ankle lock he used on Benoit during their
classic back at the Royal Rumble leading to a Brock tap out.
Winner: Kurt Angle
Post match standing ovation for both men which was the fist time I had
ever seen something like that at a house show! Overall a great show with
attendance about half full so probally 3,000

I personally believe that everything I've stood for when I got into a WWE ring
would be compromised and succumbed to the circus-like atmosphere that's out
there, and that's putting it mildly." - Bill Goldberg to The Desert Sun,
