Is anyone on the list a graduate of this school, or know anything about
them.

I tried to look them up with the Better Business Bureau (they are in MA)
and could not find them to check them out.

I want to be sure about them as I can't afford to throw away $200...

Sorry, I am not in that State and do not know of them. (Keep your $200
till you hear from a regular here).

Someone here will no doubt reply - in the meantime look at these URLs.
I hope they help...

Seems to me that I saw an ad for them once in the back of a detective
magazine (cheesy detective magazine) about 10 or so years ago. Is this the
same place?

And no I am not a graduate either.

Hi,

I'm not sure what part of MA you're In, but In Western MA Westfield State
College has a decent certificate program on Private Investigation and being
somwhat familiar with both programs the course at WSC Is the better wya to go.

They're now called Detective Training Institute (San Juan Capistrano,
CA) I'm not a "graduate" but one of my employees has been augmenting
her training with this company. I find their curriculum, course study,
and study materials to be very well rounded and very informative. "I"
think the study course to be very practical for anyone interested in
the field, as well as a good overview for someone already a P.I.

Also, the "administrator(s)" of this organization seems very good at
assisting their students: They will send (to prospective employers) a
student's transcripts that include grade breakdown, field of studies
and hours earned.

Interestingly, I've met a P.I. who received his P.I. license from the
state (NJ) and had listed his primary experience as this course.

You certainly should look into all forms of training and study
available in your area, but I don't think you'd be "wasting" money with
this company.

BTW: The Winter 98/99 issue of P.I. Magazine lists and evaluates most
P.I. schools in the nation.

Good Luck,
LC

Are you sure it was NJ? New Jersey requirements include:

"Experience: Must have at least five years experience as an investigator or
as a police officer with an organized police department of a state, county,
or municipality or an investigative agency of the United States or any
state, county or municipality."

Joe,
I used to read those magazines as a kid, i think it was "True Detective"
They would always have a hot looking girl on the cover. I remember taking my
allowance and ordering a PI badge from it. That was the best at 13 years old.
I think they went out of business, they are probably the people who run some
of these "you can be an real life investigator in two weeks schools" Only after
they get their certificate, do they read the fine print that say's "This is
not a professional license" We have one of these schools up here and they
advertise during footbal games. I cringe as all my friends look at me and break
out laughing. I say to them "I wish they offered the fashion photographer
course when I was there."

I graduated from the school in 1996 and have been keeping up with them for years. But recently I referred a friend to them and when he told me that he couldn't find them on the website, then I tried without any luck. It's a good school but after 40years, I think the school have finally shout down. Must known home study schooling offer a course in Private Investigator. I recommend you try after school.
