I was surprised to find out that I cannot login into my Skype account (I am
a PAYING customer and was trying to buy credit) unless I allow tracking
cookies from a company called Coremetrics to be installed on my computer...

Skype support didn't reply to mail asking for details about it...

so it's goodbye Skype...

Interesting.
If I read it right, Skype should provide an opt-out from Coremetrics
cookies/data collection.
I quote from
http://www.coremetrics.com/company/privacy.html#services:
(Note: "Our Client" = Skype)

"Our Clients' Use of Our Services.
We require all of our clients to abide by all applicable laws, rules
and regulations, and we promise our clients that we will do the same. We
also recommend that each client obtain all necessary consents from
visitors to its web site; prior to and after Coremetrics' provision of
any Service, post on its web site and abide by a visitor privacy policy
providing each visitor with the client's data collection and use
practices; provide notice that cookies are being placed on the visitor's
computer; an explanation of the purpose and utilization of such cookies;
and provide on its web site an opt-out (or a link to an opt-out) so that
any visitor may choose not to have his/her data collected."

End quote.

I am guessing this is the newest version of Skype?
I use an older (pre-ebay) version on my mac- am asked to update every
time I launch, and naturally don't...

Any ideas for a good VoIP alternative I can use for calls to Europe from
the US?

that`s what I didn`t like... no explanations, no opt-out...
