Yesterday I got either spyware or adware on my system. I ran Trendmicro's
antispyware which is installed on my computer and also their online scanner,
Ad-aware SE and Spybot. Trendmicro's antispyware referenced awvtq.dll which
I tried to remove with no luck. I keep getting a pop-up from WinSoftware
Corp. wanting to install WinAntivirus200 and scan my system.

If anyone is familiar with my problem and knows a solution I would
appreciate the help.

Thanks in advance,
Steve

Steve,

Our product Super Ad Blocker will detect and remove that item. You can
install Super Ad Blocker free for 15-days and it is fully functional. If you
don't want to keep the product, you can uninstall via the Control Panel
Add/Remove programs.

The trial is fully functional and should remove that item for you. If it
does not remove it, please let me know and I can have you run an diagnostic
on that file and post the findings to the group and I will update our
definitions to remove that item.

I would suggest running the scan in SAFE MODE to make sure there are no
kernel drivers protecting that file from being accessed/deleted.

For the following to work, you need to find the fully qualified path to the file; awvtq.dll

For example; c:\windows\system32\awvtq.dll

Download Pocket KillBox.
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/files/spyware/KillBox.zip

Extract KillBox.exe from the ZIP file

Execute; KillBox.exe

In the Full Path of File to Delete box, type the fully qualified path you found for
awvtq.dll

< full path>\awvtq.dll

Select; Replace on Reboot
put a check in the box "Use Dummy"
Click The Red circle and a white X
When prompted to Replace on Reboot, click YES
If prompted to Reboot Now, Click YES

After the reboot, rescan your system with the tool that had detected it before.
(Trend Micro anti spyware ?)

| Another way, a simpler one I think, is to open a Cmd prompt window. Change
| directory to the one containing the file.
| Open task manager. End task on explorer.exe. Close task manager.
| In the Cmd prompt window, delete the file.
| Type "explorer" and [enter] in the Cmd prompt window. Close the window.
|
| No need to reboot or use 3rd party software.

Explain why you think killing the EXPLORER.EXE process would close the file handle on the
DLL awvtq.dll ?

A completely different process could be calling this DLL and having the DLL File Handle
open.

Additionally, if you kill EXPLORER.EXE the OS Desktop will no longer show.

I think it is better to use Pocket KillBox to simplify the process and it actually works.
