I have been using Spybot Search & Destroy for many years now and during
that time it has never found a threat on my PC. I guess that is good.

But how can I test that the program is really working at all? Is there
something comparable to the Eicar test file (which is used to check
antiviral programs ) that I can add to my PC and so see if Spybot picks
it up?

(Windows 98SE, Firefox, Spybot S&D, SpywareBlaster, Avast, ZoneAlarm).

If it's finding things every month then stop goingto all those porn and
torrent sites. ;) Seriously though, I expect what you are seeing it find
is harmless tracking cookies and no real malware.
