Hello Gab,

Thank you for setting up a nym server and running a remailer!

Why does mail to li...@nym.gabrix.ath.cx having a header Reply-To:
mail2news-20091124-a...@m2n.mixmin.net not cause a
list of nyms to appear in alt.anonymous.messages?

The same mail to li...@nym.mixmin.net does return the list for the
mixmin nym server. See current a.a.m messages

is evidence that the gabrix request was sent.

What nymserver code are you running? Subroutine reply_hdr in
nymserver.pl revision 1.17 shows that a Reply-To: header in the
request is honored ahead of From:, if present.

Pending resolution of this question, could you please post the current
list of nyms here on a.p.a-s?

For your reference, the mail sent from here was

I had a look to nymserv.pl but i have not find any reference to m2n
mixmin net , i'd ask Zax for this .

This is a guess but I suspect something on gabrix is messing with email
headers before it gets delivered to the nymserver script. When Gab was
setting it up, there were problems as the X-Original-To address on
incoming email was wrong.

On nym.mixmin.net, I use a procmail recipe:
RECIPIENT=`formail -x X-Original-To:`
:0
| /crypt/home/nymserv/nymserver.pl -d $RECIPIENT

On nym.gabrix.ath.cx, this didn't work as the X-Original-To was being
rewritten by (I think), a virus scanner. I suspect the same might be
happening to the Reply-To header.

Yes, no reference to m2n mixmin net in nymserv.pl, but Reply-To: is
referenced there, and the supplied Reply-To: references n2n mixmin
net!

Hi Gab, possibly it might be, depending on how it's implemented. It's
also possible that I'm completely wrong about the cause. You could
probably test it just by sending yourself an email with a Reply-To
header in it.

Works fine with just a From: header if exit remailer allows a
user supplied From: header.
See 200911252324...@smtp.gabrix.ath.cx

How come the full headers are quoted below the list?

Thanks for that demonstration. Does this shed any light on why kulin
(and maybe frell) doesn't work for agora? Could it be that agora has
kulin blacklisted?

IT DOESN'T WORK!

To verify the above success from here, I sent the following mail:

To: li...@nym.gabrix.ath.cx
Cc: mail2news-20091126-a...@m2n.mixmin.net
From: mail2news-20091126-a...@m2n.mixmin.net
Subject: a25ebcd90c54ce212bb14a756b48d7246a919fa1c895b835
Chain: *,*,kulin

irrelevant

a.a.m message <I8F1GSEX40...@reece.net.au> is proof that it
got through the remailer chain and reached kulin. BUT NO RESPONSE
FROM GABRIX FOLLOWED!

What's going on here?

So to further narrow the difference between the cases (working from
the record in in 200911252324...@smtp.gabrix.ath.cx of what
had been sent in the successful case), I got rid of the Cc: header and
added the "_nospam" to the From: address, and sent

To: li...@nym.gabrix.ath.cx
From: mail2news_nospam-2009112...@m2n.mixmin.net
Subject: 90369e48bcde60b2900728c6bd16c4b60da9ad8396c003d4
Chain: *,*,kulin

irrelevant

Remailers in the chain have excellent stats. No response has showed
up on a.a.m. So I did it a second time, sending

To: li...@nym.gabrix.ath.cx
From: mail2news_nospam-2009112...@m2n.mixmin.net
Subject: 14c8f1209b7f747a2d9d197f12cc58c26b9b683b7babb39a
Chain: *,*,kulin

irrelevant

again through a chain with excellent stats. Still no response.

Does anyone have a clue why?

It looks like near-verbatim use of your headers works from here,
though I can't be sure that a.p.a-s Message-Id:
<200911271148...@smtp.gabrix.ath.cx> is my doing.

Experiments continue. I'll report interesting results here.

Pleas say what remailer software you're using and how it's told to
preserve the From: header. I'd like to look at the code.

Do you know where the source code can be obtained?
