Is it ever coming back? Should we trust it? Was it encrypted?
Can the Feds now read the emails which were stored with it?

I don't believe TorMail ever said that they encrypted their mail. One
would have to assume that someone has access to those emails.

Should you trust it if it comes back? Only as much as you should have
trusted it before, which shouldn't have been much.

The mail would have to be locally encrypted by the user before
sending (ie. pgp/smime/etc) to be safe. Any server side encryption
would either need to have the encrypted volume open to be able to
read and write to the spool or would have to have both the encryption
and decryption key in the code.
