A Rocky Mount, NC man is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in connection
with the weekend carjacking and murder of a Hampton mother on her way home
from vacation in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Ginger Hayes with her son Nicholas
Ginger Hayes, 23, stayed in her car around 10 a.m. Saturday to change her
baby's diaper while her husband went into a drugstore in Greenville, NC.
Police believe Andre Edwards abducted her and the child. Her husband came
out of the store to find his family and their car missing.
Police said Hayes was forced to stop at an ATM in Rocky Mount, where a
surveillance camera photographed her with a man who looks like the suspect.
They said she only took out $100.
Saturday night, her body was found in a field nearby. A North Carolina
medical examiner said she was beaten to death and suffered multiple blows to
her head. Police believe she was killed within two hours of her abduction.
Her 11-month-old son Nicholas was found nearby wearing only a diaper. He was
sunburned and dehydrated, but alive. Police believe he had been there for
six hours.
Joy riders, who said they borrowed the stolen rental car from Edwards, led
police to him at a house in Rocky Mount. He's being held in the Nash County
Detention Facility, charged with first-degree murder, attempted murder and
robbery.

Nash County authorities said Edwards, 31, had 57 prior misdemeanor and
felony charges since 1987, including convictions for possession of stolen
goods, DUI and resisting arrest. He was last paroled in October 2000, after
serving 10 months on a conspiracy charge.
Prosecutors said they are considering prosecuting him first in Pitt County,
where Hayes was abducted, then in Nash County, where authorities believe she
was killed. They said if they get convictions in both counties it would
improve their chances of Edwards getting the death penalty.
Edwards' neighbors said the home, where he lived with his girlfriend, was
often noisy late at night, with Edwards banging on the windows, screaming
and shining his headlights on houses in the neighborhood. Some of his
neighbors said they are scared and considering buying guns.

Sounds like he learned to treat people with a different kind of respect
after serving so much time in the notorious NC torture camps.
This is what you'll get when you treat people like shit in a cage - we can
all learn a lesson from this. Unfortunately, I am quite sure that the state
of NC will be completely unwilling to accept *ANY* responsibility in the
murders, thought the certainly played their part.
Again I ask...
what is it you are trying to prove here?
>Another piece of garbage that should have never been let of of
>prison............
I can safely say that there are many DOC employees that should be on the other side of the bars.
Maybe it was the treatment he got at your hands that triggered this. Did you ever think of that?
On second thought, let's try something a bit simpler... do you ever think?????
