Hey all who are left here,
Since AT&T is killing their Usenet service, I am am affected by the above
announcement. Any suggestions for free Usenet service? I think I can do
this through Google, but their interface was pretty bad the last time I
tried. If I can't find a free service other than Google, this might end my
Usenet days. I don't use it enough for me to warrant paying for a service.
Anyone up to creating a Facebook group for the few of us left here?
Rob
Well, I am currently using Motzarella. Been good for me. I don't do
binaries and neither do they. They are changing the name soon though.
Like next week. Decent retention.
I don't do Facebook, never have and have no interest in it. I think my
age is showing. I just don't get that and twitter. :-)

After Primenet sold off most of its subscribers to Earthlink, I jumped
ship to Panix (even though my account wasn't one of the accounts that got
sold off). Panix's usenet access is quite good. It ain't free, though.

Ironically, the largest demographic group for Facebook is the
over-30 crowd, and the fastest-growing group is senior citizens. My wife
and all her friends are on Facebook, and so are our sisters-in-law (on
both my wife's side and mine). I have a few friends on Facebook, but not
enough to create the critical mass necessary to get me to bother.
I'm not on Twitter either, but as I understand it, Twitter's one of those
things that is easier to understand once you've used it. A lot of people
swear by Twitter (including that noted curmudgeon John C. Dvorak).

I fully believe the 30+ crowd as well as the "older" crowd. I signed up at
41, my Mom signed up last week at age 64 (at the urging of a friend of hers
about the same age who had just sigend up), and my wife's aunt of 70-someodd
years just opned an account. And, my wife will be signing her Mom up this
weekend.
I personally have found Facebook kind of invigorating as well as being able
for me to find just about everyone who I have been looking for (and a lot
that I haven't been). It surprises me that Classmates.com is still in
business.

Hello all,
I've decided at this point not to search out a 3rd party to read NGs. I
don't spend enough time on the groups anymore to justify signing up and
learning the whole procedure just for this group and the one other group I
read.
I had a good experience with this group over the years. The one thing my
wife and I still talk about is the PrimeFroGlo meeting at the Chinese
restaurant with the round table and the guy who came up from Tucson who
drank and ate and then exclaimed that he didn't bring any money.
In the same vein, I feel like I still owe Nathan about $15 for covering the
extra portion of a tab I had where I underestimated the amount of cash that
I needed. I had a debit card to pay with, but they wanted to do one tab,
and he covered me for what I didn't bring. If Nathan reads this, I hope he
emails me so I can pay this debt that he probably has no recollection of.
Should anyone want to get hold of me, fel free to reply to this email as the
address is not munged. But, I suspect that I won't be talking to amny of
you again. It's odd writing this, but since we weren't *that* close, it
doesn't feel like a huge thing, but it does bring a tiny bit of closure to
part of my life.

Bummer. Well, maybe we'll all wind up on a FroGlo Facebook group or
something similar some day. Just because none of us are on Facebook now
doesn't mean we'll never give in.

I remember that incident. That will definitely live on in infamy.

I'm sure Nathan doesn't remember it, but if it's eating you up inside,
email Billy. Billy still keeps in contact with Nathan. I bet he could
get word to Nathan of your desire to make good.

Well, it's definitely a bummer to see one of the old gang signing off,
even if (A) nobody posts here anymore and (B) we were never that close in
the first place. I blame Hosun. This place was vibrant and lively until
he vanished and took his friends with him.
Curse you, Hosun!
Okay, I don't really curse Hosun. I blame getting old. It's been 8 years
since the great FroGlo purge. It's really amazing that any of us are
still posting here 8 years on. Couple that with the ongoing death of
Usenet, and it was inevitable.
Oh well, have a good life.
