Several days ago someone wrote: "During WWII the Japanese figured out that
they did not need to send airplanes to bomb our country because they learned
that the natural rotation of the Earth allowed them to simply send balloons into
the sky over Japan filled with explosives that, within about a day, would be
floating over the United States..."
When I read the above on The Watch my first reaction was... 'Yeah...
right! This is sheer unadulterated fantasy!!!'. But when I mentioned it to my
son-in-law (in college) he said, "Dad. That's accurate... it happened." He then
pulled up google and linked to some history reports. Fantastic!
But now, several days later, this news is coming out in news reports and
people in our country are worried about Japanese radiation, despite the fact
that a lot of eggheads (who are probably paid by the nuclear power companies)
are telling us that we have nothing to fear but fear itself.
Personally, I now choose to believe the anonymous Watch writer who told us
about this last Saturday.
There is just no way, it appears, that private industry can be trusted to
run a nuclear power plant... but we need nuclear power plants desperately
because they are better energy source and will allow us to stop buying so much
fossil fuel from the nutty Arabs.
The ONLY way Obama can get new nuclear power plants built in this country
will be if the federal government builds them, operates them, and sells their
energy as a public service... just the way the Post Office USED to work... as
well as every other federal agency. WE CANNOT ALLOW PRIVATE INDUSTRY TO OPERATE
NUCLEAR POWER PLANTS! Private corporations cannot be trusted because they
operate on the cheap to maximize profits for their corporate investors who only
want to see operating costs cut and sale prices high... and cutting operating
costs always leads to either an inferior or unsafe product.
If the federal government operated nuclear power plants solely on the
basis of a national security need to provide energy, with no profit motive,
electrical energy would be affordable while the nuclear plants would be safe and
self-funded from customer usage payments.
If Obama was truly as smart as his fans say he is, he would put away his
basketball for as long as it takes for him to craft legislation to have the
Energy Dept build nuclear power plants and operate them using federal employees
only. The public would then trust nuclear energy because the public would have
no fear that corporate scumbags were cutting costs to maximize profits.
Oh yeah... one final point... Obama must insert a line in the legislation
that says our government power plants must NEVER be taken over by a private
corporation... just look what happened to the Post Office... turning it over to
a private corporation was supposed to make the PO run cheaper and better...
yet... the cost of mailing has all but tripled since the Post Office was put
under corporate rule... and service ain't any better.
Only the government can run an operation at low cost to consumers more
efficiently and reliably. Obama can get the nuclear power plants he wants and
our country NEEDS, but only if the plants are owned and operated by the
government which regulates better what it owns.
That's my two-cent idea... kick me in the teeth if you think I'm off-base.
