It's for different reasons.
For example...
I am against illegal immigration because it creates a
permanent underclass and is nothing short of slavery.
Republicans are against it because they hate Mexicans.
but they put up with it because it creates a permanent
underclass and is nothing short of slavery. That's the
positive aspect of illegal immigration to republicans.

Too be fair, not all self-identified Christians act insane. That is why
I referred to "the nutter wing of the Christian faith".
But there is some validity to what you post. The nutter wing will always
cling to their nutter beliefs, but ridicule, from their more rationale
brethren, can and does temper their vociferousness.
