AT LEAST 30 former Guantanamo Bay detainees have been killed or recaptured
after taking up arms against allied forces following their release.

They have been discovered mostly in Afghanistan and Pakistan, but not in
Iraq, a US Defence Department spokesman told The Age yesterday.

Commander Jeffrey Gordon said the detainees had, while in custody, falsely
claimed to be farmers, truck drivers, cooks, small-arms merchants, low-level
combatants or had offered other false explanations for being in Afghanistan.

"We are aware of dozens of cases where they have returned to militant
activities, participated in anti-US propaganda or engaged in other
activities," said Commander Gordon.
[...]
"These former detainees successfully lied to US officials, sometimes for
over three years," he said. "Common cover stories include going to
Afghanistan to buy medicines, to teach the Koran or to find a wife. Many of
these stories appear so often, and are subsequently proven false, that we
can only conclude that they are part of their terrorist training."

Well that does it. Now the left will be calling for more releases and
wanting to get them back to the war zone quicker. They certainly are
doing all they can for Americas enemies.

Yeah - there's no better motivation for a man to become a terrorist
against the US but to lock him up in Gitmo for a few years - except
maybe to lock his family up there.

Yup. No doubt the Leftwingers were doing cartwheels after learning 30 of
the guilty suspects were released to continue their terrorism. Then again,
the 30 are probably a drop in the bucket compared to the actual number of
guilty terrorists who have been released and returned to terrorism. KM

I love the part from the left, how they say I am against the war but
support the troops. Yet are doing everything they can to see that this
kind of thing happens. AQ must be very happy that there are idiots like
this working for the same things they are. Never know which side of a
leftist face to talk to

Not all of them. The problem is when the message becomes sloganized.

If any of you have the courage to view this video I think you might agrree
that there's nothing the United States or anybody else could do to a human
being to turn them into the monsters capable of doing and glorifying things
such as this:

That statement of faith is contradicted by the facts.

In fact, the US has proved that it is QUITE capable of turning ordinary
people into terrorists.

That's called a "cycle of violence" and while it may make you feel
better to see humans treated as animals - it does nothing to quell the
violence.

You didn't watch the video, smacktard. If you want to see "humans treated
as animals" try 40 minutes of bound, gagged civilians being hacked to pieces
in the street by masked goons while other citizens including children look
on.

Apparently throwing somebody in a cage with possible, likely or known ties
to terrorism is worse than using machetes to sever the heads of bound
victims on a public road. Thanks for clearing that up, Kaufman. There's no
"cycle of violence" involved with executing hostages or butchering live,
screaming victims in the street on Planet Kaufman is there?

And, of course, we've got the dubya's word on it that all the people who
died or were imprisoned at Gitmo were just like that. Guess we'll just
have to trust 'im that these are the "worst of the worst".

But then one wonders why over 300 of the Guantanamo internees have been
released.

Or why not a single one has been even tried, much less convicted.

We don't, I suppose, need to address those who've been killed as
"collateral damage" or by misdirected "smart weapons" which, for
instance, blasted a wedding party rather than the "meeting of senior al
Qaeda operatatives" they thought they were targeting.

That the bad guys are bad guys is beyond dispute.

There remains some considerable question as to whether those folks we
are "getting" are, in fact, bad guys.

Peace and justice,

Gosh - I wonder what would drive a person to such a state. He's so
insanely violent - almost as if he had himself been beaten and tortured
to the point where any semblance of humanity was driven out of him.

The US soldiers did far more than simply throw him in a cage to turn him

I disagree with that entirely. I don't think that they were all justifiably
imprisoned. My point is that the world is filled with ex-POWs,
concentration camp survivors, etc who were mistreated and abused just as
hard or harder (Bataan Death March, for example).

They did not ever use it as an excuse--nor would one have been accepted--to
kidnap people, bind them, gag them and then hack their heads off in public
in the name of God.

Ever. Not Stalag XVII, not the Hanoi Hilton, or Dachau, not Andersonville.

> That the bad guys are bad guys is beyond dispute.

Apparently not. See, we have a whole bunch of people out here who think
that what happened at Guantanamo or even Abu Ghraib "caused" the kind of
diabolical violence that is demonstrated in abundance on the video at
http://ia331307.us.archive.org/2/items/tromenter/almoghad.wmv

Yep. And if I'm wrongly imprisoned for it I can't run out and murder
innocent people in the street while their kids watch and then blame the

Where in hell did I say that?! I'm looking at the subject, I'm looking at
a bunch of terrorist websites I just shut down, I'm preparing material for a
visit by the FBI scheduled for tomorrow, and I just don't see anything that
suggests that Gitmo is any more "terrorist training" than all of the
Jihadist how-to sites out there, even if you're wrongfully imprisoned there.
That's my point.

If you were wrongly imprisoned for three years by a country, you'd tend
to develop a hatred for that country, wouldn't you?

They finally release you, and you head back home, and guess what?
There's some guys who say they want to fight the country that imprisoned
you. You'd join up. It only makes sense.

And it only makes sense to say that, as long as we have
illegal/extralegal prisons and torture gulags, that the victims of these
institutions will fight us once they're freed.

LOL! One significant difference between you and me, fathead, is that due to
my line of work I just brought down about a dozen jihadist websites and
instructional videos today, and the FBI is coming in tomorrow so I can help
them investigate the domestic source.

At this point, Kaufman, while you're trashtalking my "character", I'm

Now, why don't you tell everybody here all about character?

Nor can you get a hearing before a judge or even a lawyer to plead your case

Yeah, like all the survivors of Auschwitz, Dachau, Mauthausen, Bataan,
Stalag XVII, Andersonville. That's what the freed slaves did in Texas,
too, huh? After being dehumanized and beaten and tortured... why, they
went right out, kidnapped perfectly innocent people and then chopped them up
alive out on the street to terrorize the neighborhood. That's what they
did, huh, Kaufman? Oh...wait...no they didn't. I'd bet long odds that
all those holocaust survivors out there never abducted a civilian and sawed
his head off alive in front of his family and community.

> The US soldiers did far more than simply throw him in a cage to turn him

There it is, Shatzer. See? America is responsible.

Only in your fucked up fantasies, Kaufman. I've have to look at videos of
what terrorists do to men, women and children in the course of my job. I
goddamn guarantee you haven't, and you don't know jack shit about what
happens at Gitmo, either except what your terrorist heroes want you to
believe. You don't know what you're even talking about. You can
swiftboat my "character" all you want. It means nothing.

It's time to grow up and be a man, Bucky. I'm sure ALL of these people were
detained and tortured at Gitmo, which is why they're glorifying mass murder,
torture and terrorism:
http://ia331307.us.archive.org/2/items/tromenter/almoghad.wmv At 13:27
you can watch them shoot a blindfolded man through the head and then watch
blood bubble from his lips as some fucking ghoul with a video camera leans
forward to catch his last words. Immediately after, you can watch another
beheading. And another. And another. And a few more. Oh, lookie! Mass
execution at 15:10. By Gitmo victims, no doubt.

Isn't the soundtrack beautiful, Kaufman? It's like all those Nazi
propaganda videos from that time when the Jews persecuted the Nazis so much
they had to go out and kill Anne Frank... you fucking nutjob.

Because it is not the US government's policy to treat terrorism as a crime.

My grandfather was tortured by the Gestapo, imprisoned, starved, forced
march near to death and left to die next to a shrivelled up jew who'd just
had his brains blown all over the snow.

Funny thing is, he didn't run home and saw people's heads off. Not even
actual GERMANS. Pappy Boyington was tortured by the Japanese, and guess
what... John McCain was tortured by the North Vietnamese and guess what...
Frederick Fucking Douglass was enslaved by white men, and guess what...

Please see the video link I forwarded to you. If you want, you can skip to

Nope.

But my false imprisonment doesn't justify a single minute of the video I
can't seem to get people here to courage-up enough to watch. It's actual
jihadist video from self-proclaimed and verified jihadist sources, by the
way, and not friggin' Fox news.

No - you're just harassing folks on the web - just like you always have.
You're just garden variety web-predator - impotent but with delusions of

In your defense, there's a LOT of chicken-shits out there who want

Over a thousand have been kidnapped and tortured, without trial or
counsel - and you can name only TWO who have faced criminal charges.

And on that, you base your incorrect assumption that the US treats
terrorism as a crime?

That particular form of dishonesty is called "citing the exception as
the rule". It's a great way of tricking people who are predisposed to
believing your lies, into believing your lies - but it really only works
on the stupid and the insane.

I see that kind of irrational thinking a lot from the emerging crop of
heroin junkies, here in Dallas.

One girl in particular comes to mind. She told me that shooting heroin
is OK, because sometimes the trip is good - although, for her, most
times it was not.

Like you - she cited the exception as the rule.

> It's pretty fucking stupid to say that terrorism isn't criminal, because

I never said it wasn't criminal. I said that it's "not the US

government's policy to treat terrorism as a crime".

I wish to GOD that the US would treat terrorism as a crime - because
that's what it is, and that's the only way to deal with the criminals
effectively.

Wouldn't that be great - if instead of torturing them for a few years
and then releasing them, we were to lock them up for a couple of decades
or execute them?

Man - that would be soooo cool.

Sorry. No, it's not that one video, that's just the sample I've giving you.
It's not the stuff the Feds are calling about and I wouldn't send you to the

(Well, I might send Kaufman. ;> )

Am I wound up? Yep. There's no justification in the world--let alone one
allegedly created by a peaceful and loving God--for the kind of things you
can see on that one video alone. The insinuation that somebody else is
responsible for their actions suggests that people who are wrongly
imprisoned or are tortured anywhere are justified in going out and
inflicting unspeakable cruelty on families who had absolutely NO
relationship to the issue at all.

It's impossible for me to look at an middle-eastern man sawing the head off
of an Iraqi boy, or shooting a bunch of teenagers, or declaring jihad
against Israel...and blame it on Gitmo, China, Russia, the Romans, the
Crusaders, God, Israel, Allah or anybody else. It's intolerable to suggest
that imprisonment is the cause of torture and murder of -completely-
innocent people in their own Iraq neighborhood.

Well, who do people think we're fighting? The Peace Corps? The ones that
come out, pick up rifles and shoot at us...well...they're the enemy. That's
sort of what they do. If Japan had released a bunch of US GIs before 1945
I'd bet fair money that a bunch of 'em would salute the next B-29 to Tokyo.
But they sure wouldn't come home to murder other Americans in the street.
It's abundantly and unforgettably clear to anybody who bothers to look what
kind of assholes we're trying to exterminate.

Our enemy is the jihadists, the Taliban, Al Qaeda, the terrorists. That is
abundantly clear to anybody with enough balls to put down the goddamn Cindy
Sheehan rhetoric and figure out that they'll kill you for being not them,
not because they were sent to Gitmo.

If you're gonna put it that way, I'd say, rather, that it's wrong to let
them out. If they're dangerous when they're 'detained' then why the hell
aren't they being released in the first place. I'll tell you one thing:
It ain't the goddamn Republicans demanding that they be turned loose, is it?

I don't fault you for that, but it's a startling useful sense of perspective
I guess the term armchair-terrorist-defenders might apply to some. (Not
all.)

If somebody is going to attempt to portray the enemy in some sort of light,
I think it's useful to see how the enemy chooses to portray itself. One way
to do that is to show hostages getting their heads hacked off by groups of
armed men in black masks or being executed in public like it's friggin'
Berlin in 1940. That's how the jihadists portray -themselves-, with flags,
beautifully-rendered musical scores and lots of images of guys proudly
hiding behind their masks and machine guns while executing innocent people.

Why are there people here trying to apologize for, justify or switch the
blame?

Why?

Unfortunately, thanks to the "stunts at Abu Ghraib" (quoting a Marine
veteran of the Anbar province), the ROE are now such that if they're NOT
caught red-handed, a lot of times they'll never make it into the back of a
vehicle let alone a detention facility.

A friend of mine who is a commander of an M1A1 tank platoon says he's not
allowed to return fire from if they take small arms fire because of the ROE.
IE, they hear bullets pinging off the tank and they lose their head if they
poke it out, but they can't return fire with their main gun on a known
shooter position because the main gun is too powerful. Gotta send in the
grunts or Humvees to get shot at first.

Your war as conceived and conducted by the Pentagon. (The Marines, OTOH,
have a simply philosophy. If you threaten them at all they are authorized
to return with overwhelmingly superior firepower.)

> Most of them admit they want to kill the Americans and any other non
> Muslim.

Oh, I disagree just a little: They're perfectly happy killing other
Muslims, too.

We need to end this war because, just like in 1970, our people can't win it
the way they're being told to fight it by people who aren't fighting it all.

Sander, *your* particular form of dishonesty is called 'erecting a

> It's a great way of tricking people who are predisposed to believing your

Whatever.

You really have no desire to talk about anything of substance, do you?
You just want to vent about the sorry state of affairs in our nation.
And that's fine. But just try not to make too much of an ass out of
yourself in the process, OK?

Here, I'll try to address the substance of what you're saying: It *is*
the US policy to treat terrorism as a crime. That's part of why BushCo
is an idiot for indefinitely imprisoning people -- even if they're
motherfuckers of the highest order -- in an offshore extralegal prison
without charge, in *CUBA* for fuck's sake.

Here in the US, terrorism is *criminal activity.* Bombing an abortion
clinic is criminal terrorism, for instance. You can be charged and sent
to prison for doing it.

Fromaged - hehehe.

There is precedent for this kind of trial.

The Christians would torture the accused until they confessed or died.
If they died, it proved their innocence. But if they survived, it
proved they were guilty - so they were executed.

Of course - that was back before we fully understood the virtue of
separating church from state.

I don't want to be a jerk here, but judging by what you're saying, I'd
say it's not useful for that purpose at all.

Keep in mind: That video is agitprop. It's *supposed* to fill you with

You also seem a little rattled by whatever this thing is you're talking

So - you think that NOT having trials, NOT having access to Counsel and
NOT having evidence presented - that's how one treats something as a crime?

That's true... for white Christians.
They do indeed enjoy a such a *preferred* status.

Speaking of which - did you see that Dallas police chase today?
When the well-dressed white guy was finally stopped, they just pulled
him out of the truck and cuffed him. Then they sat him up and talked to
him all nice like.

Chris has never made any secret of his identity and his real name is,
indeed, Gattman.

Given the address harvesters who sell email addresses to spammers, his
phonied up address is entirely understandable. I do that myself for
similar reasons.

Chris and I often disagree but he's neither anonymous nor a coward.

Yeah - sometimes when he posts here and is somewhat behaving, he posts
under his real name. And when he does things he should be ashamed of -
like trolling the web for folks to single out and harass, he has a whole
nother way of doing things.

I would have thought, after all these years, you'd have caught on to
that by now.

He says he hunts down web sites to take down - do you think he does that
under his own name? Of course not. He's a creep - but he's not an idiot.

I'd even venture to say he's probably been called "exceptionally bright"
by those who have had to evaluate him. All the best web predators are.

'Bout three weeks of "aggresive interogation techniques" and you'd admit
to kidnapping Jimmy Hoffa. And would smile while you're doing so.

And "most" would imply that there is some significant number who don't
so admit. Why are THEY still interned?

> We keep them because we don't feel right shooting them outright.

Military courts martial certainly have the authority to impose the death
penalty in appropriate circumstances. Let's have the freakin' trials
and impose capital punishment on those found guilty of capital offenses.

Try the bastards and shoot 'em if they're convicted. But let's at least
dispense with this Through the Looking Glass procedure of, "Sentence

Some are. Probably many, and these are the real prisoners of war. But
you well know the stories of people who were arrested because some
village elder said they were terrorists, or because they were simply in
Afghanistan.

> and
> we have no intention of trying to do a trial on these terrorists.

The key phrase being "Most of them". The Constitution was designed to
protect the other people, outside your "most of them" set. That includes
you, but at the moment, you can, in violation of your rights and without
any recourse whatsoever, be sent to Guantanamo or sent to a foreign land
to be disappeared. Why do you think you won't be? Why do you think you
won't be seen as a terrorist? You are now on record advocating taking
people out and shooting them without trial. That's what terrorists do.

well sheltered, slept on such comfortable beds, sat on such comfortable
furniture, had so many amenities at their disposal and learned such useful
exercises, etc. They hated the United States BEFORE they were rounded up.
Innocent angels don't hang around Al Qaeda training camps and they don't
carry flame-throwers and grenade launchers on their way to the dental
appointment they claim they were en route to. KM

Well, both sides of a Leftists face are Left sides. Anyway, even more
common is for the Leftwing Liberal to spout, or should I say parrot the
phrase, "I'm against the war, but, I support the troops" and then in the
ensuing remarks, whether they be oral or written proceed to degrade,
denigrate, insult, criticize, slander and otherwise bad-mouth the very
troops they claim to support! Is this the height of dishonesty or are they
just plain nuts? KM

Yeah, innocent Muslims carrying Kalashnikov rifles, pipe bombs and other
explosives, flame throwers, grenade launchers and flame-throwers peacefully
sauntering to the market and enjoying a little target practice on human
beings (mostly Muslim) en route. KM

If a suicide bomber targeted and killed civilians in Oxford Street he would
be called a 'terrorist'; at a bus stop in Tel Aviv, a 'militant'; in
Baghdad, an 'insurgent'. Where is Orwell?

Wait a minute! Is this a suggestion to undermine the entire Leftist
unphilosophy and its raison d'etre? To follow that path would make it
impossible to be amoral! What would happen to screeching victimhood? And
blaming anyone you don't like rather than those who are responsible? People
like Nancy Pelosi, Teddy Kennedy, Maureen Dowd, John Dean, Rosie O'Donnell,
John Kerry and Hillary Clinton would go up in a puff of smoke! No, on
second thought, smoke has substance, they'd go up in a puff of hot air. KM

Bullshit. You're just a lonesome old crackpot who has no friends because of
his perennial pessimism and nattering negativity and you're willing to go to
any length and toss any type of bait just to get a tiny morsel of attention
by way of a response from anyone at any cost. You're just a monolithic,
tunnel-visioned, knee-jerk hate monger. You're a mentally deranged
America-hater who has not yet learned that there is only one kind of hatred
and that is self-hatred. Everything else is what psychiatrists and
psychologists call "projection". But, that's way too painful to face, isn't
it Sanders? Better to escape by bashing America until you become a
wild-eyed, breast-beating, teeth-gnashing, howling, obsessed fanatic. KM

feared; failing even this, to be hated and despised. One wants to arouse
some sort of feeling in people. The soul shrinks from the void and wants
contact at any price."

All of the Abu Graib "horrors" occurred while Saddam Hussein was still in
power. After the allied invasion, the so-called "horrors" were more
accurately portrayed as minor embarrassments, raucous razzing and attempts
to hurtums wittow feewings. KM

This is what the conservative right thinks about torture.

Remember that.

And remember that America's policy *against* torture started with
George Washington. And ended with this conservative Republican
President who was too weak and cowardly to dare to assert that
America still stands for something.

Oh, now, you shouldn't go wishing bad things for the President (who
wandered off), the Vice-President (who had "other priorities"), and
the Young Republicans (none of whom are serving).

In fact, Alohacyberian, not to put too fine a point on it, are *you*
of military age?
