LEAFLET ON TUCKER VS. FEINSTEIN ON IMMIGRATION ISSUES

(Copies of the leaflet can be obtained by calling
818-830-2794 x 4 or emailing 76170...@compuserve.com)

"Feinstein, who had a healthy lead (in the 1992 election), responded
with the same anti-Mexican rhetoric: 'Our borders
have to mean something!' and adding, 'They can't continue to be like
Swiss cheese like they are (now). California has
double-digit unemployment, (deteriorating) infrastructure that is not
replenished...We need to control our borders.'
Feinstein went a step further than any of the other candidates by
advocating peacetime deployment of retrained soldiers
to make the border illegal-proof. Despite this position, Feinstein
sought the endorsement of the Mexican-American
Political Association (MAPA). When asked about employer sanctions as an
existing, allegedly less repressive way to
limit the undocumented, she seemed mystified."--Dr. Rodolfo "Rudy"
Acuna, "Anything But Mexican: Chicanos in
Contemporary Los Angeles," 1998.In 1992, Dianne Feinstein had the gaul
to accuse hardworking immigrants of taking
jobs away from Californians.Yet in 1994 when she ran for re-election, it
was Dianne Feinstein herself who took jobs
away from Californians.Jan Tucker is a California licensed investigator
who regularly investigates violations of labor
laws for labor unions. In 1994, Tucker caught Feinstein red-handed in a
scandal involving the unlawful use of two
different "union labels" on fundraising letters and envelopes that were
actually printed at a NON-UNION PRINTING
PLANT IN THE STATE OF TEXAS!If Feinstein had the printing done at a
California non-union shop and "pirated"
the union label, it would have been a criminal violation of the
California Labor Code. Arguably, because she sent out a
fundraising letter with a union label on the envelope, implying to
people she was using a union shop and paying decent
wages while asking people to give her money for her re-election bid, her
campaign was committing mail fraud in
violation of federal law.Surprise, surprise....the United States Postal
Service did not even bother to respond to a
written request that they investigate Senator Feinstein for mail
fraud....Jan Tucker was the second Anglo in the state to
earn a degree in Chicano (Mexican-American) Studies. He has worked to
combat racism and immigrant bashing for
over thirty (30) years.VOTE TUCKER for U.S. Senator

MEDEA BENJAMIN: SUE OR APOLOGIZE

Recent articles by Counterpunch online magazine collaborators
Alexander Cockburn and Jeffery St. Clair raised the
accusation against Medea Benjamin, Jan Tucker's opponent in the
California Green Party primary for U.S. Senator,
that she had her Global Exchange followers guard Seattle facilities of
Nike during WTO protests there from imminent
attack by "anarchists." Aside from providing Nike with thousands of
dollars worth of free security services that the
company was apparently too cheap to pay for, Benjamin was quoted by the
New York Times as calling for the arrests
of the "anarchist" by Seattle police.

Medea Benjamin issued a public denial of ever having called for the
arrest of the anarchists and claimed she was
misquoted by the New York Times.

Alexander Cockburn responded to this denial by publishing a follow up
story in which he cites what he describes as
Medea Benjamin's own newsletter as making the same claim as the New
York Times, quoting Medea herself as calling
for the arrest of the anarchists!

Accusing a reporter of misquoting somebody so out of context is a very
serious act. As an officer of a newspaper guild local, I have a
different take on this than
most people: an accusation like that can cause a reporter to lose out
on a bonus or on merit pay, not to mention harm their career in other
ways, tangible and
intangible.

So, I have a challenge for Medea: either sue Alexander Cockburn or
apologize to the New York Times reporter who
she claims misquoted her. Either Cockburn has the smoking gun, a
copy of her own newsletter to support his
contention or he doesn't. If he doesn't, Medea should sue him for
libel. If what he's saying is true, then Medea should
apologize to Cockburn for denying his article and to the New York Times
reporter who quite accurately quoted her.

Where to begin?

1) Jimmy, your ability to cross-post into nonsensical newsgroups has not
improved one iota in six years. The one-line charter for the newsgroup
alt.politics.democrats.d reads: "Democratic party issues." What does
this discussion have to do with the Democratic Party? Nothing. Did you
just need to fill up your four-newsgroup limit somehow?

2) Why doesn't this discussion pertain to the Democratic Party? Because
Jan Tucker is a candidate in the Green Party PRIMARY election for
Senator, State of California. Your post didn't make that at all clear.
The commentary on Senator Feinstein (Democrat) is irrelevant. Tucker is
running against Medea Benjamin, another Green, in the primary.

3) Who is Jan Tucker? Why are you so excited about him? Simple, he has
carelessly lent his name to your hare-brained mock elections known as the
"USA Parliament," and you see the connection as another lame opportunity
to promote yourself. You did this six years ago, with the group Citizens
for Proportional Representation. If Jan has a scrap of sense, he will
sever all ties with you immediately.

4) Lastly, on to you. Why should anyone in the Green Party listen to
YOUR recommendation in OUR primary? You may have been registered with
us once, for a single year, back in 1994. But that was for the sole
purpose of running for Governor of California. You didn't seem to care
that the party you joined did not want to contest that race. Never mind,
you were ready to lead the band. Well, the band played "Taps" for you in
1994, voting for a Binding None of the Above over all flesh-and-blood
candidates in the Governor's race. For every vote you received, NOTA got
2 1/2. But we did waste time and money defeating you. And you have done
nothing but whine about it ever since.

Now, I have it on good authority that party organizers were not
interested in contesting this year's Senate race, either -- that the only
reason that Medea Benjamin is running is because the California Secretary
of State took away the Green Party's binding NOTA. It's hard not to see
Jan Tucker as a reincarnation of you, the nuisance from the "USA
Parliament," who wastes Green Party time and money. We want you, and
anyone who associates with you, to go away. You are persona non grata.
Can't you take a hint?

Oh, I suppose that I should quote some of the more egregious parts of
Jimmy's post.

Wrong. Jan Tucker's web site is NOT hosted at www.usparliament.org. You
don't have to click through all of Jimmy's stuff.

A LINK to Jan Tucker's Web site may be found on Jimmy pages. That is all
that you will find there. Jan's web site is located at:

http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/janbtucker/

His opponent, Medea Benjamin, has a web page located at:

http://www.greens.org/medea/

You can bypass Jimmy's shameless self-promotion and get to the meat of
this discussion if you wish.
