Finally, the notion of "unconscious racism" has been thoroughly verified
by experiment. I have been harping on this problem before.

This is a good lesson for people who notoriously accuse "others" of
racism. It is likely a projection of their own repressed racism. This is
what psychology teaches us: "Everything that is unconscious is
projected." This research has shown that racism is an innate factor
functioning unconsciously. Hence it is projected. Thus, the very people
who think of themselves are perfectly non-racist and "good" are much
more likely to be surreptitiously racist.
According to the following article, it's the constant, vague,
just-below-the-surface acts of racism that impair performance, day in
and day out. This form of surreptitious racism magnifies when people
remain politically correct and refuse to talk openly about painful
questions. The conclusion is that it's better to talk more openly about
race.

If hypocrisy goes too far, people become neurotic, bending over
backwards just to avoid mentioning race. This sometimes creates more
interpersonal problems than it solves, the author of the following

This is how "unconscious racism" works. "At Uppsala university, Sweden,
an experiment was set up where people watched crime scenes on film.
Women were much more prone to misjudge the scene and identify the
immigrant as perpetrator. The researcher said that this was due to the
fact that women tend to be much more liberal than men in matters of
immigration. So they repressed their negative feelings for immigrants,
which caused them to point them out as perpetrators, instead. This is
the treacherous way in which the unconscious works.
It actually means that a multiculturalist person is likely to be
unconsciously racist, while he/she represses his/her negative feelings,
whereas a person who thinks critically in terms of ethnicity and race is
prone to point out the correct perpetrator, in this experiment the white
person.

i've been reading today(in a book published in 1973 by
a high 'democrat' politician) that when republicans restrict
the welfare state...that is because of 'racism'...
but when 'democrats' bring in the very measure that
republicans suggested...that is not 'racism'

No, that's not what the findings say. It says that you should avoid
being unconsciously racist. It is better to admit that you prefer
socializing with people of your own etnicity. There are only two
alternatives (1) either you are unconsciously racist or (2) you are
consciously aware of the problem of race.
