Rules for the private Facebook group "Capitalism or Socialism?
(Discussion and Debate)"

POSTING GUIDELINES

(1) ALL OF FACEBOOK COMMUNITY STANDARDS (FCS) ARE REQUIRED.
Instead of repeating them here, view them at:
https://www.facebook.com/communitystandards/
Facebook requires an admin to delete a post which violates FCS, and
sometimes to remove the group member who has posted in violation.

(2) BEGIN EACH ORIGINAL POST (OP) WITH A TOPIC STATEMENT.
When starting any OP, begin by writing a debate topic, discussion topic,
or question, in your own words. This topic statement has a minimum size
of one sentence, and has no maximum size. Do not start a thread merely
by attaching a picture, asking others to view a site, sharing a Facebook
post, etc. Below your topic statement, you may attach your link, photo,
cartoon, video, music, article, news, announcement, quotation, etc. A
post that does not comply with this rule, and is not quickly edited by
the author to bring it into compliance, will be deleted. Others who
reply to a post that does not comply with this rule will find that their
replies get deleted.

(3) DO NOT TAKE ACTIONS WHICH PREVENT DIALOGUE.
For example:
* Do not "post and run." (Someone who starts an OP should reply to the
comments and questions of others.)
* Do not turn off commenting, which prevents others from continuing a
debate.

(4) Avoid AD HOMINEM REMARKS ("Marx was a big dope.") Avoid HOSTILE OR
SARCASTIC tones ("Are you out of your mind?") Follow a civilized form of
debate ("I agree/disagree with that idea for the following reasons." )
Supporters of capitalism and supporters of socialism have equal freedom
of speech.

RANGE OF TOPICS FOR DISCUSSION

(5) The central topic of discussion is WHY YOU PREFER EITHER CAPITALISM
OR SOCIALISM.
Such closely associated issues as history, economic theory, strategy and
tactics, etc. are also relevant.

(6) DEFINITIONS OF THE TWO MAIN TERMS.
To keep the group focused on a common purpose, this group assumes
particular meanings:
CAPITALISM --- a system where some or all of the industries and services
are privately owned, funded by private investments, operated with the
objective of returning profits to the owners, and directed by the owners
or their representatives.
SOCIALISM --- a system of collective ownership and democratic control by
the population of the industries and services, operated for social use,
without private investments or private profits, and having no division
of the population into owning and non-owning classes.

Avoid popular terminology that is outside the purpose of this group, for
example, the popular use of the word "socialism" to mean reformed or
government-regulated capitalism.

(7) AVOIDANCE OF REFORM TOPICS.
The group should not be used to promote, oppose, or otherwise discuss
reform ideas which are less fundamental than the issue of capitalism
versus socialism. If a thread is not within our range of topics, and if
it is not quickly edited by the author, the thread will be deleted.

MISCELLANEOUS

(8) Posts should be in the ENGLISH LANGUAGE.

(9) BLOCKING AN ADMIN IS NOT ALLOWED.
All Facebook groups prohibit this, because it interferes with
administration. Any group member who blocks an admin must be removed.

(10) The thread for DISCUSSING THE RULES THEMSELVES (complaints,
suggestions, questions) is:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/290228468360157/permalink/496973687685633/

(As amended April 21, 2020)
