I was recently the victim of credit card fraud. I take security very
seriously and do not divulge any details to anyone else. I never write down
my PIN and on the card that was used fraudulently, I had taken the
precaution of memorising the 3 digit security number on the back of the card
before erasing it by scratching it off. I always know where my card is and
ensure that nobody else has access to it.

Despite all this, I reviewed a recent card statement which showed a number
of transactions which I didn't make. Three top up phone purchases were made
of £30, £5 and £3, £30 spent at Dominos Pizza in Warrington and another £40
spent at another eatery in Warrington. I live about 200 miles away from
Warrington and have never been there in my life.

I can only assume that someone copied my card details when I was making a
purchase at some time.

How can retailers still accept card details without either the PIN or
security code? I assume they were happy to accept just the card number and
expiry date.

Fortunately, the credit card company have said that because my PIN was not
used in any of the transactions, they will be able to refund me.

What a twit.

#2 Bullwinkle is intentionally (else incredibly incompetently)
misrepresenting a message posted by someone else and pasting it here
(apparently) ascribing it to BD

I don't see any difference between that nonsense, and that of acav as of
recent. Mike, if your going to critize for doing something, perhaps you
should critize all doing it?

I'm 'replying' - responding - to a message posted here in s-e.

In that sense, my reply/response has nothing to do with whatever is
happening in some other group, except for the referenced uk.legal group
in this specific.

That is, a.c.a-v isn't 'in it' - for me. If you want to react to what
is happening in a.c.a-v in s-e, that's /your/ prerogative.

I also recently posted here on the subject of CC creditcard fraud, of
which this recent uk.legal is an example -- as opposed to the drama of
the concept of 'identity theft', which term I rejected/eschewed as (not
being) descriptive of BD's old 2005 incident.

Fair enough. :)

No point. I think I understand you just fine.

Now you are (anyway in this thread) acting just like BD. Re-examine your answer in
your post and you will see

I pasted a portion of the uk.legal post (whose entire content had
already been pasted) to rebut the bogus information that Bullwinkle pasted.

Bullwinkle pasted the content, misrepresenting its source/origin. I
simply clarified/rectified the content's source.

I could have simply pasted a GG link instead, but that would not have
put the very words in front of the eyes of the reader. And, I was
'aggravated' with the GG database because it wouldn't fetch the item by
message-id. Nor would Howard Knight's tool.

I could also ignore everything every top poster ever says, but I don't
do that either.
