How exciting, and what a grand book it must be. The subject is
fascinating and I think it's all good. I'd love to be there, but I
can't. Give her my best though :)

will do.

Colleen already is planning her next project.

Because she has been working so hard I even cooked her a candle light
dinner.

Far worse people than you and bd? Maybe so, but I don't see them in
here, just to 2 of you. Perhaps if the 2 of you stopped your hateful
behavior, this would be a better place. Just saying :) After all,
according to your friend eagle, its fine and dandy for people to give
back what they get, therefore the responses you and bd often get. It's
your own fault :)

You'd have to go a long way to find even another *one* like them.

Yup.

Or if they simply ceased to exist. Either is just as good as the other.

They beg for such responses all the time.

Thanks.
We usually put fairly lo-res images up so that if someone decides to
"steal" an image they won't get too much.

As to privacy, that does not really exist anymore
and we don't care if the whole world knows our story.

Yep...Like I said, the whole world can have my story.

I am pretty beat now...it was one heck of a day.

The books arrived from the printer at the very last moment...bu they got
there in time.

A *lot* of people showed up and about 75 books were sold this evening.

Years ago I published a poetry book and thus far only three words and a
semi-colon have been sold from it, I'm hoping that some day an entire
paragraph sells :)

A well rounded life
but unfortunately I'm a square

Here is my day thus far:

The day this far:
Got up at 4 am to fix a friend's computer. Then recalled I had an issue
with my own machine so I upgraded the kernel and (kind of) sorted that out.
Now it's light outside, so put a railing on the stairs going to the 2nd
story porch.
Decided to write a poem and post it on Facebook.
Waste some time doing various activities until I grew quite tired and
decided to go back to sleep.
Crawl back in bed and.....THE CAT PUKES and I had to clean it up.
Now...finally back to bed and the phone rings.

AArgh...It's 11:30 am and I really need to take a nap.

Oh , I don't know if you should have asked...but here goes:

GODZILLANOT

Nine years ago, in Times Square,
I saw a 98 foot woman.
Every detail I recall:
The exact color of her eyes,
Her toes.
Each distinctive eye-lash and the,
Polka-dots of her dress.

No one was running.
No one was screaming.
She stood there silently,
And smiling.
And ignored.

The 98 foot tall woman was not,
Climbing the Empire State Building,
Nor Godzillalike,
Crushing cars or trucks or pedestrians.

No army bazookas ineffectively,
Spewed fire.
No one called the Marines.
Nope,
She just stood there,
As I gasped.

Some Madison Avenue executive,
Had probably authorized the expenditure,
Of 50 million King Kong "bananas",
To pay for that bill-board.
She was there to sell.
The advertisement was an act of genius,
And I can still visualize,
The exact color of her lipstick.

Yes sir.
Yes maam,
She was selling something...
And I'll be goddamned,
If I could tell you what.

It was one of those ads that was too good.
It was a great ad in that years later, I still see that woman clear as a
bell.

It was a terrible ad in that the image was so captivating,
the product itself was invisible.

I kind of recall that it was for a telecommunications company,
but the name of it just plain did not register.

Maybe you'll also get my sense of humor ... here's one of mine.

Am I different?

If I stand in the snow, Am I different to know?
If I walk down the street ... am I now incomplete?
If I stand on the grass...have I changed from my past?
Am I any less me? I suppose I will see....

If I stand in the shade ... will my sight fade?
Are my eyes still the same? Is my heart even changed?
Does the place that I stand... Make me different, or can ...
the place that I'm at .... effect only that?

How have I changed...when I stand over here?
Am I different to know ... if I stand over there?
Am I the same person.... to know and to love...
if I stood on a roof,,,,or stood on a glove?

I look in a mirror,,,, and see the same me
no matter what place,,,,I stand, I will be...
I'll be the same person,,,if I stood on my head
if I jumped up for joy,,,or cried on my bed.

If I stood on a roof, or danced in the street
or knelt down to pray, or walked with bare feet.
What if I changed just because of the place
or changed just because someone's up in my face?

Would I still be me, or would I be fake
would I be myself, or known as a flake?
If I couldn't remain who I am all the time but
changed just to please someone else on a dime?

I'll stand in the snow,,and know I'm complete,
I'll stand in the grass, and stand in the street.
A place that I stand is mearly just that
I will still be me, where ever I'm at!

I used to write on a daily basis...
non-stop between 1984 and 1996 or so.
Every poetry reading I could find I went to...
and I'd go regularly to the poetry slams as the Green Mill in Chicago.
(Almost every weekend for over a year)

http://www.upchicago.com/sunday-night-poetry-slam-at-the-green-mill

Eventually, I stopped. I thought that after 12 years, I had said
all I needed to say.

However recently I have gotten into story telling...
I have a *lot* of them...they are true and I think they are pretty good.
Here in Milwaukee they have the "Moth Slam" a once a month competitive
story telling night...but waaay more friendly than the poetry slams.
I went to my first one earlier in the month and though I did not win
it...my sotry was well received and I'm going back.

Then today...all of a sudden,
I gave birth to a 98 foot tall woman!

And perhaps 'wherever' instead of 'where ever' - but the last time

I could have used "wherever", but I wanted it to be 2 words just for the
flow. The meaning, I didn't think, would change by using 2 words.

Of course though, I deflected that. It was not me who noticed the
spelling error, it was my spell checker.

I know that in the poetry group I hung out with...
I admit that I might have got a bit pissed if someone criticized me,
I actually improved when I listened to it...as the advice was well
thought out.

Going to a poetry slam (especially in Chicago) was just plain masochism
...as the judges were usually a bunch of drunks who knew NOTHING about
poetry and just wanted to make an impression of themselves.

One evening I read a poem that was in that day's paper. It was in an
obituary of a Pulitzer prize winning poet.
I just read the poem as my own as I wanted to see if they even had
enough knowledge to realize I was plagiarizing.
Not one of those idiots even knew I was reading the words of a world
famous writer...
I actually got booed off the stage.
It was at that point I did not bother with poetry slams anymore.

I've never been to a poetry reading before, but when the inspiration is
there, the words flow without thinking about it.. like with you.

I think you're one of the first people I've met who writes poetry ... and
you understood my poem, too! That's kind of cool.

Things like that are strictly a poet's choice. I often type the wrong
word, but before I have time to change it I realize that the "mistake"
actually made it a better poem.

Exactly! Poetry has a lot of creative freedom. That's one reason I enjoy
writing it. When I built my poetry pages, I loved to format the poems in
specific ways so they would be visually pleasing and at times had the lines
formatted so that it even appeared to look like an object.... kind of a
multi-tiered creative addition...

You're about 9 years older than me +/- a few months. :D

Very interesting...I should probably dust off my old type-writer
because I think I did better with that.

When I started a poem I'd very often visualize the thing on a piece of
paper before I had actually written it.

I's then start writing very fast...
as the words filled in the shape of it.

If I could not think of a word...or even an entire line,
I'd just skip it and move on to the next, leaving an appropriate space...
and not wanting to kill my train of thought.

Then, when I got to the bottom of the page.
I'd just return and fill in the blanks,
usually without hesitation.

To edit the poem, I'd read it out loud
time and time again.

Rarely adding words
but typically taking out some of the clutter.

Using the typewriter helped my think convergently
and efficiently. Most of my poems were on one typewritten page
and as I'd get to the bottom I'd have to more carefully think about my
words.

... yes .. it is! I'm thoroughly enjoying it, Philo! Thanks ....

If you want to read some more of what I've written, it's at my link I posted
earlier.

Do you have another poem you could post that you like?

It was fun at the time, but if you ever find a poetry reading to go to,
there are too many good ones to really bother with the slams.

Time for me to get off-line

but I will find some poems some day soon and post back
and probably scare everyone away.

I'll bookmark your link and read it when I can relax...
usually in the mornings

philoᅵ used his keyboard to write :
In a corner of my mind
Something tiny brightly shines
Troubles although surely small
Cast large shadows on the wall
Closing door obscures the light
Puts my troubles out of sight
In a corner of my mind
Dim reflections of a time
When ignorance was truly bliss
Now filled with things I should have missed

When I write, it's usually because of something going on that has me
inspired, whether it be good or bad, and I want to put into words on paper
how I feel about that topic. Sometimes, more often than not, I use imagery
vs real examples to make whatever point, and I want to cause people to think
about what caused me to write what I wrote. Each line usually has some sort
of a moral or specific thought.

I just keep writing until I can't write any more or until I feel like I've
said what I want to say... then I might go back and read it a few times and
edit it... then I put it down for a while... and maybe go back to it days
later to see how I feel about it.

It's good to meet another poet! :D

It's kind of sad when a good intentioned constructive criticism get met
with stubborn opposition though, it makes one tend toward not trying to
help anymore.

What a sensible approach you take, Philo.

You are, of course, absolutely right! :-)

As a for instance .......

My sister, now aged 76, and her husband, 80, do not own or use a
computer nor do they have/use credit or debit cards. They do, though,
own their own house. With my sister watching over my shoulder yesterday,
I typed into Goolge search her first name, middle initial and surname
....... and hit 'return'

The very fist result was her! Spot on! She could hardly believe her own
eyes!

Yes, when I went to get car insurance a few months ago,
about all I had to tell them was my name and address and they had
virtually all the info they needed, right down to the model of my car
and my driving record.
