That's one of the problems with living in the alley. I just hope that
people stay safe and it's not too bad.

One school full of kids and teachers was hit and they can't find them.
Rescuers are trying to dig and see if they are under the rubble
somewhere alive.

I think they both do damage and take lives depending on how severe they are

I've been through several shakers, and I'm still here. I wonder if I

A few months ago I felt my first 'shaker' (earth quake) and since then I've
felt maybe 2 more, so they are on the increase in Oklahoma and getting
strong enough for us to feel them, now.

Many times you can see tornadoes coming, but the scarier ones are when they
are rain wrapped or at night. We've also had variations of weather
phenomenon like gustnadoes and micro-bursts and a few very small f1
tornadoes hit nearby. They all did some damage, but it was localized to a
small area. One afternoon after work I needed something from Home Depot, so
I headed on down the road and could see the dark clouds of an active
thunderstorm a couple miles in front of me moving away from me. I didn't
really think much of it until I started seeing debris on the road... then I
saw several trees uprooted and THEN I saw major debris in and around the
road I was on ... It was done and over with by the time I got there, so I
went on to Home Depot and then went home .. checked the news and they said a
microburst had hit that area minutes before I was there. <smile> I like not
getting there as it's happening!

on 5/21/2013, Jenn supposed :
I remember a big one [6.2] that hit LA in 1969 and dropped the brand
new overpasses and shook the apartment building I was living in. The
walls went back and forth, back and forth, hitting a stop one way and
hitting a stop the other way. I looked out the front window, [I was on
the second story] and the street was rolling like waves!
The shaker killed a mess of people and did allot of damage to the new
freeway overpasses and old homes that weren't connected to the
foundations. Straight sidewalks had bends in them now.
Then there was the Northridge shaker. That one really did some damage!
Our sales taxes went up like 2 cents to pay for all the damage from
that quake. One good thing came out of that quake, a new concrete that
set quicker and was many more times stronger than the concrete used for
freeway construction. I used it for stucco repairs, and it saved my
customers much in return fees, which yielded more customers.
Now, all the freeway bridges and overpasses in California are
reinforced with more rebar and the new concrete.

I remember the '69 quake too.. seeing it talked about on tv, and I also
saw a movie about it... I imagine the movie wasn't 100% accurate, tho,
but it gave a good idea of what it must have been like.

The first earthquake I felt here in Tulsa was just weird. The song "I
feel the Earth .. move .. under my feet..." comes to mind! lol

I meant *all* the other stuff there at guyman. 'Bout ready to copy part
of the 'engineering' stuff (http://www.guymacon.com/planning.html) and
take it to work to let the people who call themselves "engineers" have a
look at it and see if they can see themselves in there! *AND* their
fucking boss, too. The Company has known for several months now that
some "really important people" are coming to the plant to look at "one
particular machine" and they just now get around to putting it together
and trying to get it to run for these "really important people" who
might wanna do business with our Company! Here I am standing at my
machine across the way, which happens to be running, watching 12 people
stand around *watching* one person put this "one particular machine"
together. Instead of one person doing something and another person doing
something else and a third person doing something completely different,
so on and so forth, the boss assigned them *all*, to watch. Just watch!
The Company called to reschedule the visit of the "really important
people" for a later date. The one person putting it together went on
vacation south of the border for 2 weeks! LOL. And the machine is just
sitting there. Nobody else knows anything about it, nobody has touched
it this week. And the boss hates hearing the "F" word. Fuck 'em.
