I can't speak for the State of Hawaii, but I do know that there are, under
no circumstances, available the original California birth certificates. I
still have a photocopy (which is not legally accepted for purposes of
identification) of my original certificate (most poeple don't even have that
much), and when a copy of one's birth certificate is ordered from the state,
one gets a document that looks almost exactly like the Hawaiian Certificate
of Live Birth.
