There's an interesting article about the norovirus outbreak in
Boston (it also seems to be nationwide). At this point, over
half a percent of all the residents of Boston have gone to the
emergency room due to this virus--which means even more have
been sick.
First, as always, wash your damn hands! Now, onto the public
health. What's interesting is that Massachusetts
Sophisticated, real-time disease-tracking systems had been in
the works for years, but the terrorist attacks of Sept. 11, 2001,
as well as the arrival of anthrax-laden letters a month later,
caused researchers to expedite development of the networks.
Initially, the tracking systems, known as syndromic surveillance
networks, were trumpeted for their potential to detect bioterror
attacks.
To protect ourselves against bioterrorism, we need a strong,
well-funded public health infrastructure. No amount of Peter Pan
conservatism is going to change that because the norovirus (and
potentially, far worse things) doesn't care that Karl Rove
cleaned up in the 2002 midterm elections or that George Bush is
the Decider

GHI: Karosta Prison
In GHI's first visit to a former Soviet territory they didn't
pull any punches - the investigation site was an old Soviet
prison that once housed all sorts of people that probably
shouldn't have been locked up; at least according to their host
and tour guide.
Dustin & Angela went back to this same area and after some time,
playing around with an EMF meter and a few needle-jumps, they
heard a woman's voice also. Their host believed at least one of
the recordings was a woman speaking Latvian saying "Stop!" but
we don't see his reaction to the second recording, or even if
they played it for him.

With regards to this former Soviet prison in Latvia the most
burning question I have for GHI is: What the hell was that on
Barry's head? A hat or a Dolly Parton wig?!! I never thought I'd
have a reason to say it, but I'd rather see Dustin wearing his
"bass-ackwards, upside down" sun visor than Barry's winter head
gear!!
Beyond that the only bit of collected evidence that I found
impressive was the EVP of the female screaming voice, assuming
it was not faked, of course. The EVP of the alleged voice saying

You could ask a thousand doctors--ten thousand doctors--before
you'd find one who said, Condoms? Don't bother.

Trujillo explained, "The AIDS virus is roughly 450 times smaller

Botswana, 34 percent in Zimbabwe--Catholic clergy, who oppose
condoms as they do all contraception, are actively promoting the
myth that condoms don't prevent transmission of the virus and
may even spread it. The Guardian quotes the archbishop of
Nairobi, Raphael Ndingi Nzeki, as saying: "AIDS...has grown so
fast because of the availability of condoms." Thus is a decade
of painstaking work to mainstream and normalize condom use
undone by the conscious promotion of an urban legend.

A Bridgeport, Conn., church called Manifested Glory Ministries
posted a controversial video on YouTube that raises concern
about the unregulated abuse of children by church-sponsored ex-
gay programs.
The video features church elders performing an exorcism of so-
called "homosexual demons."
Fox Channel 61 in Hartford reports
The video shows leaders of the Manifested Glory Ministries in a
frenetic scene, screaming, "Right now I command you to leave!"
At the same time a teen writhing on the ground as the adults
around him implore so called "homosexual demons" to get out.

Frankly, E Marks, at the time of Jesus, everything they didn't
understand was attributed to demons or evil spirits. That
included everything from schizophrenia and post-partum
depression to epilepsy and leprosy. We now know better. What we
need to be asking is did the actions of these people help or
harm this boy Freddie. I hope the local authorities will be
looking for that answer.

Atheists have done the research and found that the mythological
figure of "Jesus Christ" was based on other pagan savior gods

The Bible was written thousands of years ago. The writer relies
on this book written by male authors who were human beings with
their own ignorance, prejudices against women, slaves, "infidels"
and those born with a homosexual orientation. They were humans
with a human tendency to lie and distort and create myth.

biology. Since the time the bible has been written archeologists
have uncovered Hominids, which are half man, half ape skeltons.

Debbie Shick never imagined that the student found responsible
for her son David's death would not be severely punished. She
never imagined that the University would allow that student to
stay at Georgetown, continue playing soccer and graduate with
his class.
During the spring of 2002, Kate Dieringer (NUR '05) reported to
the Office of Student Conduct that she had been raped the
previous fall.
As in the Shick case, when Dieringer met with the Director of
Student Conduct Judy Johnson to find out the sanctions imposed
on her assailant, Johnson had her sign a confidentiality
agreement. Dieringer said she signed the agreement right away
because "the whole point was to find out if I ever had to be
around him again."
"Johnson told me the agreement was part of federal law. She said
that if I broke the agreement, I would be charged with 'failure
to comply,'" Dieringer said. "They tricked me into signing
because they had abused me and lied to me and didn't want anyone
to know."
According to Curt Martin, Dieringer's boyfriend and a junior at
the College of Charleston in South Carolina, Dieringer's
assailant was found responsible for the rape and initially
expelled from Georgetown. After the assailant appealed the
ruling, the sanction was reduced and he was suspended from the
University for one year. He will return to Georgetown this fall.
Dieringer was not allowed to sit in on the appeals hearing and
was later informed by Assistant Dean of Students Jeanne Lord
that the sanction had been reduced because it was ruled to be
too harsh. The University had never before dismissed a student
for a first time sexual assault offense, according to Dieringer.
Three years ago, Blake McGee (SFS '03) arrived home to find that
the words "STOP FAG STUFF" scrawled across a poster on his
Village C West dormitory door. Only later did he find out that
earlier in the week, several other signs posted on the floor
advertising an on-campus play in which he was performing were
similarly defaced with homophobic slurs. McGee, a Voice staff
member, immediately reported the incident to the Resident
Assistant on duty and was moved into the University's emergency
guestroom that night.
Approximately two months after the incident, McGee's case was
brought before the University's judicial board. The morning
after the four-hour long hearing, McGee was called into Johnson's
office and handed the confidentiality agreement.
"She handed me a form and said, 'you have to sign it or we can't
tell you what happened,'" McGee said.

Oron Information
Oron are closely related to the neighboring Ibibio peoples. Both
groups have lived in the Cross River area of modern day Nigeria
for several hundreds of years, and while written information
about them only exists in colonial records from the late 1800s
on, oral traditions have them in the region much earlier than
this.
Oron religion is based on paying tribute to the village
ancestors. Failing to appease these ancestors brings the wrath
of the Ekpo society. The most important ancestors are those who
achieved high rank while living, usually the house heads. They
may control the fortunes of the descendants and are free to
afflict those who fail to make the proper offering or those who
fail to observe kinship norms. Ala is the earth deity and is
appeased through Ogbom ceremony, which is believed to make
children plentiful and to increase the harvest. It is performed
in the middle of the year, every eighth day for eight weeks by
each section of the village in turn.

1964--Harvard Professor Timothy Leary urges students to "turn
on, tune in, drop out." This is only the beginning of what will
become a massive subculture. Timothy Leary is frequently seen
in the presence of a black man, who dresses in a style that is
vaguely Asian, and who is known only as "Nye."
1965--After his expulsion from Harvard, Mr. Leary founds the
Church of Starry Wisdom, which places a heavy emphasis on
altered states of concsiouness. FBI chief J. Edgar Hoover
closely monitors Mr. Leary, considering him to be a subversive
menace to the human race. Unfortunately, Leary's associate Nye
is notoriously difficult to track.
1968--A warrant is issued for Nye's arrest, inaugurating one of
the larges manhunts in the nation's history. This abruptly
comes to a halt when J. Edgar Hoover, who of late had been
becoming increasingly paranoid, is found dead in a locked and
bolted chamber, with what look like talon marks on his throat. A
press conference states merely that Mr. Hoover died of "natural
causes."
