Saira Khan argues against the wearing of the burka, a mode of dress and
fashion statement Islamic women choose to make signifying that they are
supporters of political Islam.

Her reasoning is that the garment which covers the whole body blocks out
sunlight which in turn prevents the proper and natural production of vitamin
D in the wearers body and that this leads to rickets and bone damage in
babies and long term skeletal damage.

It beats me that considering that Islam is supposed to be the final word of
god, how absolutely stupid or ill educated and also uncaring it's adherents
can actually be especially about various health issues.

Responding to Lee:

The whole point of organised religion (any organised religion at all,
take your pick) is to establish a lie of such magnitude, all other lies
by the powers of the day seem rational by comparison.

Only by getting a population to break their own capacity for reason and
adopt some insane practice can they be "converted" to the habit of
accepting insanity where reason would have them throwing eggs (or doing
something more effective, as required,) at the promoters of such blatent
stupidity.

This, of course, only works if you have a population with enough numbers
(see "delphi project" "march casualties" etc.) sufficiently dumb,
deceived, (and\or desperate) enough to accept such nonsense in the first
place.

On your comment about "final word of god", its worth rememering that (for
instance) the human body in all it's fleshy glory is (supposed to be) the
"final work of god", and yet most religions consider it and it's built-in
functions to be "An obscenity!" to be covered and beaten into submission
to the rule of their religious leaders.

One indeed has to wonder at the insanity of such minds.

Or at least those that /accept/ such manipulation.
