GOP Thieves, Liars
"Have these people totally lost their minds?" Congress wants to create death
panels? America is on a slippery slope to socialism? Fascists are loose in
the White House?
It's tempting to just tune it all out, to write it off as the outrageous
rants of a fanatical fringe. But if we do, it's at our own peril. We can't
ignore it, because a good portion of America is paying attention. We must
stand together and fight the Republican tactics of fear and lies.
A year from today - November of 2010 - is our true test. If we lose seats,
the GOP and right-wing pundits win. And the American people lose.
Now's the time to really ramp things up - to get into heavy campaign mode.
But I keep hearing the same excuses.
"It's too early!" people say. Well, it's not too early for the Republicans,
who've been attacking us with everything they've got for months now.
"The GOP can't win!" they argue. But the fact is, their nasty tactics are
working. Not only that, they have history on their side. The party that
holds the White House nearly always loses congressional seats in midterm
elections.
"Change isn't coming fast enough!" they lament. But look at all Democrats
have accomplished already! Beginning the long process of economic recovery.
Expanding children's health care. Investing in clean energy. The Lilly
Ledbetter Act. Hate crimes legislation. And more change is on its way. We've
never been this close to finally passing comprehensive health care reform.
It's not easy playing against an opponent who's willing to use every dirty
trick in the book to win. But I believe our fellow Americans will ultimately
see through the Republicans' lies and distortions - with your help.

Back in the 1930s when Social Security was created, some Americans
believed that the Social Security Number would eventually become a
national ID number, and they were called crazy, too.
But today, it is literally impossible to exist without a SSN. All
Americans - and even foreigners who are ineligible to work (remember
that the SSN was supposedly for tax purposes) - are required to apply
for one if they want to attend college, obtain a driver's license,
open a bank account, and even to get telephone service. From my own
personal experience, I was also required to provide it to police when
stopped, for jury duty, for a passport (meaning I can't travel abroad
without one), and when I visited a hospital emergency room.
Naturally, the SSN was advocated by Democrats, the same party who now
accuses anyone who is suspicious of their motives of being a paranoid
tinfoil hat-wearing lunatic.

Listen if you don't like Social Security, paying taxes, roads,
plumbing, phones, TV, the Internet, hospitals, police, then please
just move into some large distant wood in an underpopulated part of
the US and just leave the rest of us alone.

It is clear that the "Birthers", "Teabaggers", politicians and media
hosts or pundits that purvey messages of resistance, insurrection and
don't want their kids to go to school to hear the words of the POTUS
have become the dupes and stooges of foreign intelligence services
that wish to see the US destabilized by a bunch of fools - they must
be laughing their heads off at these wingnuts who are so ready to be
their pawns...

But it's not an identification number. The Supreme Court ruled using
someone else's SSN is not a crime.
