Hate crimes against blacks, religious groups rise

By Marisol Bello, USA TODAY

The number of hate crimes against blacks and religious groups
increased in 2008 over the previous year, the FBI reported Monday.

Hate crimes overall increased by 2%, to 7,783 incidents, according to
the report.

Brian Levin, director of the Center for the Study of Hate & Extremism
at California State University, San Bernardino, said it is difficult
to make a yearly trend analysis from the data because the number of
agencies that report the crimes and the way they report them can
vary each year.

In 2008, 2,145 police agencies reported hate crimes, compared with
2,025 last year.

A hate crime is defined as an incident motivated by a person's race,
religion, sexual orientation, ethnicity or disability.

From the article: "Bias incidents based on religion increased 9%, to
1,519 incidents. The majority of those, two-thirds, were anti-Jewish
hate crimes."

I wonder if the shooting at the Knoxville Unitarian church by Jim
Adkisson whose stated desire was to kill liberals and Democrats was
included in this statistic.

do you also wonder if the brutal rapes and killings of Christian and
Newsom (http://slumz.boxden.com/f5/oct-29-ringleader-tennessee-couples-

trying to drive niggers out of LA were included?

Just a thought, the only person that is more anti-Jew than Obama was
maybe Hitler.

What specific action has Obama taken that might be considered anti-
Semetic?

He has effectively turned against Israel and their building of
settlements, throwing them to the Palestinians.

For the record, I'm not a Jew and really don't have a dog in the
fight, but I realize that they're an ally of ours and there's no sense
in alienating an ally just to score points with their (and our)
enemies. Specifically Iran, but including the rest of the muslims in
the region.

Because they take care of our nukes we have planted in the middle

The large religious group suffering hate-crimes were Jewish people.

You're aware that those settlements are illegal. They're being built
by settlers in violation of Israeli law on land that does not belong
to Israel. It's a land grab plain and simple. Even Sharon saw that.

For the record, I'm Muslim, but I recognize the right of Israel to
exist and fully support a two state solution. Israel is an ally to
the US, but that doesn't mean that we should look the other way if
they violate international law. As far as scoring point with Iran, I
think you misread the situation. On the one hand we are engaged in
efforts to make the Iranian nuclear program transparent but on the
other hand we are preparing sanctions in the event that such an
agreement cannot be reached. It's very much a carrot and stick
approach, not a sycophantic one.

I don't know that I misread it at all. And I surely didn't misread
the president's dialog against Israel every time the subject comes up.
