WASHINGTON - After well over a year of negotiations, setbacks, and
political wrangling, the House has approved President Barack Obama’s
top domestic policy initiative, sending a bill to massively overhaul
the nation’s health insurance system to his desk to be signed and
enacted into law.
The climactic chapter in a century-long quest for near universal
coverage concludes with the House's approval of a bill to extend
coverage to 32 million Americans who lack it, ban insurers from
denying coverage on the basis of pre-existing medical conditions and
cut deficits by an estimated $138 billion over a decade.

This is a pity. It means it will generations -- or never -- until real
health care reform is adopted. Until then, insurance companies will have
many more captive customers and will just get richer and millions of people
will not be covered while millions more are reduced to poverty by premiums
they are forced to pay to greed-based insurance companies. The savings
which could be realize from real health care reform will not be had and the
tax burden will be crushing. The big winners are the insurance companies
who are guaranteed lavish profits.
On the other hand, hearing Republicans squeal is very nice.

Poor Geo. Can't read. Can't think.
But when it comes to hysterical, mindless, ignorant fear, he's first-rate!
So I guess we should put you down as "unenthused" about the Health Care
Reform Law.
BTW, you seem to be a big fan of this Jesus guy. Look up what he had to
say about caring for the sick and the poor, and how to treat the stranger
at your gates. I think you're doing it wrong.

I love the way you create a one-shot account to claim that, presumably so
you won't have to live with it in November.

In Who Really Cares: The Surprising Truth About Compassionate Conservatism
(Basic Books), Arthur C. Brooks finds that religious conservatives are far
more charitable than secular liberals, and that those who support the idea
that government should redistribute income are among the least likely to dig
into their own wallets to help others.

Gores' Charitable Giving Raises Some Eyebrows
WASHINGTON (AllPolitics, April 15) -- In a 34-page 1997 federal tax return,
Vice President Al Gore and wife Tipper reported giving $353 to charity, an
amount much lower than donations the family has made in previous tax cycles.
That figure is less than one-tenth the typical contribution amount for
someone with the Gores' adjusted gross income of $197,729. That fact has
caused some bewilderment in philanthropic circles because of the vice
president's "good guy" image as an advocate for public service and social
causes, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

Biden's Average Annual Charitable-Gift Total: $369
Sen. Joe Biden and his wife, Jill, have given an average of $369 per year to
charities during the past decade, according to tax returns posted today to
Sen. Barack Obama's campaign Web site.
Senator Biden, the Democratic nominee for vice president, claimed $995 in
charitable gifts in 2007 on the joint return with his wife. That figure is
0.3 percent of the couple's claimed income of nearly $320,000.

In 1988, inspired by a vacation visit four years earlier to substandard
medical facilities on Truk Lagoon,[18][14] Cindy McCain founded the American
Voluntary Medical Team (AVMT).[2] It was a non-profit organization that
organized trips for doctors, nurses, and other medical personnel to provide
MASH-like emergency medical care to disaster-struck or war-torn third-world
areas such as Micronesia, Vietnam (before relations were normalized between
them and the U.S.[18]), Kuwait (arriving five days after the conclusion of
the Gulf War[18]), Iraq, Nicaragua, India, Bangladesh and El
Salvador.[9][32][33][34][35] She led 55 of these missions over the next
seven years,[17] with each being of at least two weeks' duration.[35] AVMT
also supplied treatment to poor sick children around the world.[36] In 1993,
Cindy McCain and the AVMT were honored with an award from Food for the
Hungry.[9]
While at Mother Teresa's orphanage in Dhaka, Bangladesh, in 1991 - as part
of AVMT's assistance team following the 1991 Bangladesh cyclone[33] - she
met two infant girls she decided needed to be brought to the United States
for medical treatment.[23] She decided to adopt one of the girls (her
husband readily agreeing), later named Bridget[9] (who became the McCains'
fourth child together), and helped coordinate the adoption of the other
little girl, named Mickey, for Wes Gullett, a family friend.[9]

Dick Cheney Donates Millions to Charity
In one of the largest sums ever donated to charity by a U.S. public
official, Vice President Dick Cheney and his wife Lynne gave away nearly $7
million last year to help the poor and to medical research.
According to income tax information released by the White House on Friday,
the Cheneys' adjusted gross income in 2005 was $8,819,006.
The sum was largely the result of Mr. Cheney's stock options from
Halliburton and royalties from three books written by Mrs. Cheney.
The Cheneys gave more than three-quarters of their income - $6,869,655 - to
several charities, including George Washington University's Cardiothoracic
Institute and a charity for low-income high school students in the
Washington, D.C. area, Capital Partners for Education.
Obama has enjoyed a robust household income throughout his political career
in the Illinois Senate and the U.S. Senate. But for most of that time he has
reported comparatively little by national standards in charitable
contributions on his tax returns, records released by Obama show.

The child of academics, raised in a liberal household and educated in the
liberal arts, Brooks has written a book that concludes religious
conservatives donate far more money than secular liberals to all sorts of
charitable activities, irrespective of income.
In the book, he cites extensive data analysis to demonstrate that values
advocated by conservatives -- from church attendance and two-parent families
to the Protestant work ethic and a distaste for government-funded social
services -- make conservatives more generous than liberals.

Speaking of mindless, do you really believe this govt can take on 30M
more people in a medical program and cut the deficit? Feel free to
point out one govt program of this scope that cut the deficit. Feel
free to name one program of this scope that ever even came in on
budget. Oh, and you do realize what the CBO scored is not what we
will end up with, don't you?

Actually, I do. You see, when something happens to any of those 30
million people now, you still end up paying for it, because if doctors
and hospitals can't recover their costs from the uninsured, they simply
tack it on to their rates for the next patient--which would be you. And
insurance companies notice the rates have gone up and increase their
rates, tacking on an extra 30% to cover incidentals.
Feel free to
> point out one govt program of this scope that cut the deficit.
You can start with the New Deal programs, which cut poverty from 30% to
about 13% by 1978.
That has nothing to do with the deficit.

Look at 'em. Starting at a baseline during the depression for his assertion.
Hahahahaha!!
History repeats it's self. Hussein emulates Hoover:
"The final attempt of the Hoover Administration to rescue the economy was
the passage of the Emergency Relief and Construction Act which included
funds for public works programs and the creation of the Reconstruction
Finance Corporation (RFC) in 1932."
"In order to pay for these and other government programs, Hoover agreed to
one of the largest tax increases in American history. The Revenue Act of
1932 raised income tax on the highest incomes from 25% to 63%. The estate
tax was doubled and corporate taxes were raised by almost 15%."
"New Dealer Rexford Tugwell later remarked that although no one would say so
at the time, "practically the whole New Deal was extrapolated from programs
that Hoover started.""
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herbert_Hoover
"Tugwell subsequently served in FDR's administration for four years and was
one of the chief intellectual contributors to his New Deal."
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rexford_Tugwell
"We have tried spending money. We are spending more than we have ever spent
before and it does not work. And I have just one interest, and if I am wrong
... somebody else can have my job. I want to see this country prosperous. I
want to see people get a job. I want to see people get enough to eat. We
have never made good on our promises ... I say after eight years of this
Administration we have just as much unemployment as when we started ... And
an enormous debt to boot!"
