GOP kills effort to release oil from US stockpile; Dems hoped move
would lower pump prices
By ANDREW TAYLOR | Associated Press Writer
WASHINGTON (AP) _
House Republicans on Thursday scuttled a bill that Democrats hoped
would help lower gasoline prices by forcing the Energy Department to
release 70 million barrels of oil — about a three-day supply — from
the national stockpile.
Democrats promised that the action would have produced immediate
relief at the pump, as was the case with similar releases in 1991,
2000 and 2005.

Yeah, leave it to the Dems to use a federal asset to prop up their
horse-shit ideology. The Strategic Reserve is in place to counter an
aggression that might leave the U.S. vulnerable to attack if our oil supply
is interrupted. It's not a slush fund to be used like the Dems have used our
Social Security money.
what, are you a crank, or someone who just woke up after a 30 year
dream? the federal reserve has been propping up a failed ideology now
with taxpayer money going into its second year now, and dems raiding
social security, you must be kidding. stupidity reigns supreme i see.
between reagan, bush 1&2, we have seen the debt tripled twice.
what is the definition of a crank? someone who gives out advise that
makes no sense at all.

Yes, LOL is right when you change the subject and context of a discussion in
response to a statement from someone. That is known as a dodge, (or a segue,
if you want to be polite about it). LOL! LOL! LOL! Oh, how funny!
Try to stay on topic. I quit the GOP on account of Schwarzenegger and bush.
I said I was a conservative, not a Republican.

Not that I know of. Republicans have generally stated that the SPR
isn't for these sorts of events but is instead for actual
emergencies. The current situation isn't an emergency. If isolated
Republicans have called for releases, I think they were wrong.

Actually, it is Democrats who refuse to allow the money to be
invested. That's been a fight that has gone on for years, spend it
all or invest at least part of it.

You must have missed the part where I said the same thing applies to both
sides, and that doesn't make your side "right". You are engaging in
"projection". I am motivated by fact, not by comparing one failed ideology
to another. I guess I'll have to take my "ass", as it was "handed to me",
and try for a conversation a little higher up the food chain. (Oh, I almost
forgot, LOL! LOL! LOL!, or something like that.)
Likely RINO. Like McCain, for instance. He's the best Democrat out there.,
short of Obama.........

O.K., you are a liberal. Smarter than anyone. I won't make any progress
here.......
Funny but the article you posted didn't say Bush "released" any oil from
the Stratigic Reserve.

War is an ugly thing, but not the ugliest of things.
The decayed and degraded state of moral and patriotic
feeling which thinks that nothing is worth war is much worse.
The person who has nothing for which he is willing to fight,
nothing which is more important than his own personal safety,
is a miserable creature and has no chance of being free unless
made so and kept so by the exertions of much better men than himself.

The problem is that if you take oil from the SPR, it has to be put
back. Since we're no longer filling it, it would put the security of
the country at risk. All of this for a 90 day reduction in prices
that will reverse when we have to refill it. No thank you.

Those calls were wrongheaded. And aren't they proved so by the fact
that prices are now so much higher? Where will they go from here?
Should the US government set up a tactical oil/gasoline/diesel
reserve that it can use to move prices? This would be different
from the SPR in that it would be available to push in one direction
or the other if prices got out of hand. It's also a good idea to
have fuel that is refined ready in case of some kind of disruption.
So is that something that both parties could agree on?
