The historic summit of Kim Dae Jung and Kim Jung Il has made it possible for
a handful of separated families to be reunited soon in Seoul and
Pyongyang. There are many Koreans in America who have blood relatives in
North Korea and they, too, want to be reunited with their separated family
members.
The Global Gallup Opinion Poll Research Center, headed by
Chun Young Il and run by Korean Americans, announced August 11, 2000 that it
wants the US Government to help the separated family reunion financially,
legally and systematically. The Center plans to gather public
opinion to help the US Government formulate a policy.
Separated family reunion forums will be held at various locations in the United States, the first of which will be held on August 13th in Virginia. Additional forums will be held in 10 major cities including Los Angeles, New York, Seattle, San Francisco and Chicago. The forums will be held 2-3 times at each location until end of of November of this year.
Director Chun stated that his institute will analyze the input from the separated family members and prepare a report to the US Government.
