WASHINGTON — In the first of two votes on allowing same-sex marriage
in the nation's capital, the District of Columbia City Council has
passed the bill 11 to 2.
The D.C. Council voted for the first time Tuesday. The bill has been
expected to pass, as 10 of the 13 council members co-sponsored its
introduction. A second, final vote is expected for later in the month,
and D.C.'s mayor has promised to sign the bill.
Marriages would begin in the city as soon as the bill passes a period
of Congressional review. Congress likely will not alter the law.
Massachusetts, Iowa, Vermont and Connecticut already allow same-sex
marriage. New Hampshire will join them Jan. 1.

Not exactly. The House must PASS the DC Bill by a Vote or it fails.

Your "local and national gay rights leaders," OR the author don't
understand how DC laws work in Congress.
If the House FAILS to pass the Bill it NEVER gets to the Senate, and
it NEVER gets to the Buckwheat.
In case you didn't know 36 Senators are up for re-election, and the
ENTIRE House (435 seats)...
So, with EVERY SINGLE House seat open let's ask ourselves how many
States have allowed Fag Marriage by citizen vote?
None.
Zero.
Zip.
Zilch.
Nada.
Goose egg.
Now, understanding that NOT ONE (none, zero, zip, zilch, nada, goose
egg) State has allowed Fag Marriage by citizen vote HOW MANY House
Reps are going to vote to allow Fag Marriage and then get re-elected?

Being against gay marriage has nothing to do with homophobia.
Some people who are gay want it so they can get married, and some want
it so they can prosecute ministers or churches who refuse to marry
them, meaning they see it as just a way to criminalize disapproval of
their lifestyle. It won't work.
