Unless Britain is given a written constitution which can only be changed
by referenda, nothing will prevent a future government repealing any
ordinary law guaranteeing a referendum. Moreover, the Lisbon treaty
empowers (by unanimous agreement of its members) further amendment to
the current treaty situation without the need for a further formal
treaty. Hence, a future British government could circumvent the need for
a vote in that manner unless a British constitution specifically
insisted upon a referendum.
As for the embodying of British law as superior to British law, that is
simply an absurdity as EU law is already legally superior.
Both a written constitution insisting upon a referendum and a law
making British law superior would place Britain in the same legal and
eventually practical situation as if a referendum on Lisbon Treaty had
been held and produced a NO vote, namely, we would be forced to choose
between backing down or leaving the EU.
As for those who believe that Britain can regain powers through
re-negotiation, they should reflect on the fact that Harold Wilson tried
exactly that before the 1975 referendum when there were only nine EEC
members and EU law was nothing like as powerful or extensive as it is
now. He achieved nothing of significance.
The only way we can be masters in our own house now is to ignore the
secession requirements on Article 50 of the Lisbon Treaty and withdraw
unilaterally.

We must amend the European Communities Act to re-establish that UK law is
superior to European law. Of course that might lead to the UK being expelled
from the EU but that would be no bad thing.
Regards Mike.

Has the EU the power to expel a country?
