The Democrat coalition is cracking along two fissures over health care
an the war. In health care the Democrats are divided between socialists
and major Democrat contributers in the health care debate. The
socialist wants single payer, a government health care plan similar to
Canada or Europe. The Democrat contributers want an insurance based
system that bails out the Unions, punishes small business, and rewards
large corporations. The health care plan on the table now will raise
premiums for those who currently have health insurance, as the people
who were uninsurable before, and illegal immigrants will now be in the
pool. This concept is really not hard to understand. Think of an auto
insurance company that only sold insurance to good drivers, this would
result in low rates. Then assume the government passed a law saying
this company must sell it's auto insurance to bad drivers, guess what
the rates will go up in order to pay for all the mayhem the bad drivers
will cause. For the socialists this whole insurance model should be
dumped, and health care should be all government run, with revenues
coming from taxes, not premiums. Europe does this, but one of the
effects is to cause a 30% unemployment rate for people under the age of
30, that never varies. The economy stagnates, and the poor stay poor,
and the rich stay rich, unlike the upward and downward movements of
people pre-Obama (now it's just a downward movement for the majority).
Then there is the war, with one group who wants to withdraw and let
Europe send it's own troops. Then the other group of Euro-centric
Democrats that think a unilateral act of withdrawal would be
irresponsible and would alienate Europeans who they seem so desperate to
please. Don't expect to hear about any of this from Katie Couric and
Brian Williams, because according to them all the Democrats are getting
along famously, and all Democrats and they are united.
