Here's the info from the United Way of Central Oklahoma, the one serving
the affected area:
"The devastating May tornadoes have left most Oklahomans stunned and
wondering what they could do to help. United Way of Central Oklahoma
advises that monetary donations are the best way to assist. The
organization has activated its disaster relief fund effective Monday,
May 20, 2013, so individuals may contribute specifically to the May
tornadoes relief and recovery efforts.
"We are reactivating the disaster relief fund at the request of many of
our donors and corporate partners who are seeking an efficient and
accountable way to assist with the relief effort, said Debby Hampton,
President and CEO of United Way of Central Oklahoma.
"Fund dollars will be distributed without administrative fees to United
Way Partner Agencies working on the tornado relief efforts. Agencies
must clearly prove services provided and demonstrate need for financial
support. Organizations that receive United Way disaster fund assistance
will be evaluated and held strictly accountable. The May Tornado Relief
Fund will serve both immediate needs, intermediate, and long-term care."
Notice in the last paragraph: "Fund dollars will be distributed without
administrative fees to United Way Partner Agencies working on the
tornado relief efforts." IOW, 100% pass-through. No UW overhead taken out.
Plus the tried, tested, LOCAL accountability mechanisms to be sure the
funds are spent for what they are donated for, and are used efficiently
and effectively. No fucking around trying to find out who needs what
from the big shiny semis of mostly-useless donated goods.
If Beck's money donations are spent with equal effectiveness, efficiency
and accountability, I say good on him. If not, fuck him and all his kind.
