Revelations About IRS vs. the Tea Party Point to Real Problem -- Pressure Groups Hijacking Democracy to Push Their Own Agendas

An advocate for the Americans with Disabilities Act breezed through
town a few years ago and in his wake left politicians and business
owners scrambling to appease his demands or face threatened lawsuits.
Now we have handicapped spaces at every venue, not just two or three
(which would be reasonable), but half a dozen to ten or twenty
positioned near the front door. This was definitely overkill and most
of these spots sit there empty and unused. Before all this concern
for the handicapped, people in wheelchairs (which weren't even powered
in most cases) had to roll themselves across the parking lot under
muscle power. You know what? It was good exercise for many of them
and it probably made them healthier. When curb cuts were first
proposed, it seemed like a good idea. No problem there. Then they
demanded ramps into the front door, then handicapped restrooms, and
finally, handicapped spaces near the front door, LOTS OF "EM. It's
clearly getting out of hand. At UCLA a few years ago they decided
they needed to made "the quad" accessable to the handicapped. They
put in two long ramps at either side of the important intersection,
one for each direction of travel on either side of steps leading into
and out of the quad. Not only does it look bad but it threw out of the
mix any concern for bicycles, which used to roll down or up the
embankments and had to find another way across the large campus, where
making your next class was a tough enough proposition as it was. When
I attended UCLA a long time ago, I first had a motorcycle (to avoid
the thorny parking problem for cars) and eventually rode a bike to and
around campus. It was the best solution of all, but obviously not to
the PC crowd. For them, riding a bike on the back streets to and from
campus wasn't even a consideration.
This handicapped advocacy group is typical of all the various
pressure groups who have held our society hostage for many years. We
all know who they are. Many of them represent Blacks, Hispanics,
women, and gays, and they do a bangup job at getting them special
rights for everything under the sun. All receive tax breaks from the
IRS and relentlessly lobby for bigger and bigger slices of the
collective pie. Who gets screwed in all of this? The individual who
doesn't belong to any of these groups, that's who, and we all know who
that is, don't we. I say it's time, not to redress the wrongs done
the tea baggers but to get rid of the tax breaks for all these groups
because every one of them is out for their own benefit, NOT for the
benefit to society at large. In fact, their work has for the last
several decades done anything but make this society a fairer place in
which an individual may live.
