NRA's LaPierre: Media Sensationalizing Martin Case
Saturday, 14 Apr 2012

ST. LOUIS — A top executive of the largest U.S. advocacy group for gun
owners said on Saturday that media attention on the Trayvon Martin
killing in Florida has unfairly overshadowed a daily stream of other
killings in cities across the country.

Speaking at the National Rifle Association's annual meeting, NRA
Executive Vice President Wayne LaPierre criticized media coverage of
the shooting of the teenager by neighborhood watch volunteer George
Zimmerman, and coverage of gun issues in general.

"In the aftermath of one of Florida's many daily tragedies, my phone
has been ringing off the hook," he said, referring to the Martin case
and national media inquiries.

"The National Rifle Association will not comment on any story without
a full understanding ... of all the facts," LaPierre said.

He then listed several killings in cities across the country,
including one in St. Louis this week that he said have been ignored as
the media focused on the Martin case.

"You reporters, you don't care about those people," he said of the
other victims.

The Trayvon Martin case has focused national attention on so-called
"Stand Your Ground" laws in a number of states that provide broader
grounds to claim a shooting was in self-defense.

Police in Florida initially declined to arrest Zimmerman, citing the
state's law allowing the use of deadly force when a person feels
threatened. A special prosecutor earlier this week charged Zimmerman
with second-degree murder.

The NRA has been the chief backer of Stand Your Ground laws. Versions
of these laws, also referred to as the "Castle Doctrine" because they
allow citizens to use force protect their homes, are in effect in 30
states including Florida.

At the NRA annual meeting on Saturday, the organization celebrated its
success in passing the laws, showing a video to the membership of a
young mother in Oklahoma, Sarah McKinley, who shot dead a
knife-wielding home invader on New Year's Eve.

Authorities decided not to charge her, citing the state's law allowing
the use of force in self defense.

"We always as members of the NRA Stand our Ground," LaPierre said.

From your thread title: "State-run media", Patriot? State-run media -
is NPR all that powerful now? Patriot, are you going the way of the
"Phantom" now, delving into paranoid conspiracy theories from right-
wingers?

> NRA's LaPierre: Media Sensationalizing Martin Case
Oh, you're going to cite Wayne LaPierre - yes, you indeed are delving
into paranoid conspiracy theories from right-wingers.

"The Trayvon Martin case has focused national attention on so-called

Newsmax got this correct, as that just about sums it up as to why
Wayne is so interested in this case - it doesn't portray the NRA's
lobbying efforts for these laws in a very good light to the general
public (which does NOT include Patriot Flamer and his loyal side-kick
Butt-boi)...

Well, no.

The so-called "stand your ground" laws remove the requirement to attempt
to flee from an attacker ANYWHERE. The so-called "castle doctrine"
allows you to defend yourself in your home or on your property.

Besides, the Zimmerman case doesn't (or shouldn't) involve Florida's
version of "stand your ground" anyway.

If the situation was as Zimmerman's been reported as saying, he had no
opportunity to flee, so lethal defense would have been allowed in any
case, "stand your ground" or not.

Good point, on re-reading I see that you are correct, NewsMax
misrepresented "Stand Your Ground" as being the same as "Castle
Doctrine" ("also referred to" in the cite) - I thought they were
treating the two doctrines as similar, but not necessarily the same.
Dang, Newsmax muffed it again, the one time I was ready to give them
the benefit of the doubt.

They are similar and not necessarily the same...

They are both about self-defense and using deadly force to protect you
and yours...

"Castle Doctine" initially involved protecting yourself (your stuff
and anyone else) in your home. There had been attempts by anti-gun
DemocRATs to require someone to FLEE THEIR OWN HOME to avoid any
confrontation from a robber, etc.

In some states "Castle Doctrine" was extended to include your business
and/or workplace. In many states that is being extended to include
your car.

In Florida, being the pioneer of concealed carry and related
self-defense laws, we combined a number of concepts stating that if
YOU have a legal right to be anywhere then YOU have a legal right to
defend yourself there - wherever it is.

(Additionally, someone committing a crime, even a relative of someone
committing a crime, LOSES the legal right to sue YOU for ANY injury up
to and including death as a result of YOUR legal right to
self-defense.)

Test cases from the Florida Supreme Court have also upheld "Stand Your
Ground" to apply to the defense of others - anywhere you or they
happen to be - AND have largely eliminated the specific threat to YOUR
life as the primary motivator.

Example: You own the Skittles Store on Main St., you're standing
behind the counter and two Trayvons walk in and pull guns on you. You
pull your gun and shot the first Trayvon in his face and the second
Trayvon runs out the store down the street. YOUR life is NOT in danger
at that moment because the first Trayvon is cherry cobbler on the
carpet and the second Trayvon is gone. Yet you run out your store,
chase the second Trayvon, pop two hollowpoints in the back of his
Trayvon melon. Legal?

Yes, so said the Florida Supreme Court.

Reason: While YOUR life was NOT in danger the lives of countless
citizens WAS as the PROVEN CRIMINAL ran down the street ARMED and
therefore YOU are a Good Guy for DEFENDING those otherwise endangered
citizens by eliminating the Trayvon...

That concludes the lecture, have a nice day, dumbass.

"Whenever Patriot Game's around, there's no chance for the truth to be
found..."

OK kids, lets follow along - Original Thread:
http://groups.google.com/group/alt.politics/browse_thread/thread/6f6dce0299d8bed3#

1) My original point was that Patriot's title contained the
phrase"State Run Media", which (in the US) is a pathetic delusion of
the right (even NPR gets most of it funding from sources other than
the federal government nowadays - here's the Wiki article on NPR so
Patriot doesn't whine http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NPR#Funding).
State Run Media is a phrase sometimes used by the other righty-crazies
on this group like The Phantom or Tracey12 - I see Patriot didn't
address his usage of that phrase at all.

2) I stated that Newsmax got something correct (for once), and then
the poster "Bert" indicated that NewsMax conflated "Castle Doctrine"
with "Stand Your Ground". Crap, so Newsmax DIDN'T get this correct,
and I responded to Bert in a following post saying as much.

3) Patriot Flamer then, in his typical fashion of posting non-
sequiturs, posted:
On Apr 17, 9:25 am, "patriotga...@democrathallofshame.com
http://www.democrathallofshame.com"
<patriotga...@democrathallofshame.com> wrote:
> "Also referred to" used in the context AFTER Wayne said "You

Which is completely IRRELEVANT to Newsmax posting this: "The NRA has
been the chief backer of Stand Your Ground laws. Versions of these
laws, also referred to as the "Castle Doctrine" because they allow
citizens to use force protect their homes, are in effect in 30 states
including Florida."
That was on the cited article from NewsMax, if they got it from a
different souce (Reuters cite perhaps?), they SHOULD HAVE corrected it
by adding an editorial note - instead, they just let it go through
unchallenged, and using the Patriot Flamer doctrine, they own it.

Conclusions:
1) Patriot didn't explain his usage of "State Run Media", which was
the point of my initial posting.
2) Instead, Patriot, a Proven LIAR, tries to "muddy the waters" (as
righties are wont to do) by mentioning reporters from "Other Media";
obvious or not, that's not important. NewsMax screwed up, and so too
Patriot has been caught and called out for it.
3) Patriot has been busted for lying, and of course he will be
updating his little sham website to reflect this (I don't advise
anyone to hold their breath waiting for this to happen, of course)

My original point about your retarded "State-Run Media" thread title
was the entire initial issue, in as much as it demostrates how you're
losing it, Patriot. That's pretty relevant.

> You said, "Newsmax muffed it again."
I certainly did, in my next post after Bert pointed out the article
claimed that 'Castle Doctrine' and 'Stand Your Ground' laws are the
same, which they are not.
"The NRA has been the chief backer of Stand Your Ground laws. Versions
of these laws, also referred to as the "Castle Doctrine" -- from the
NewsMax cite above

> They didn't.
Newsmax printed an article which claims 'Castle Doctrine' and 'Stand
Your Ground' are the same, which they are not. They had opportunity
to correct the article before printing it, and they did not - they are
spreading false information, which is lying. NewsMax screwed up (if
"muffed" offends your delicate senses for some reason, Patriot). As of
now, I do not see a correction to that article on their website, and
several days have past since it was posted.

> You lied...
Since you, Patriot, claimed they didn't screw up, and since it is
obvious that they in fact did, that makes you a busted liar, Patriot.
This is nothing new for you as you are routinely busted for lying.

That's OK, we know it's due to your drug habit causing your mind to

of these laws, also referred to as the "Castle Doctrine" because they
allow citizens to use force protect their homes, are in effect in 30
states including Florida."
"Versions" of CLEARLY refers to the different laws in various (30)
states, and does NOT refer to the CASTLE DOCTRINE and STAND YOUR
GROUND laws being two different versions of a gun-law concept. You are
trying to muddle the issue, Patriot, as you often do, and failing, as
you always do.
Once again, in simple terms so even Patriot can understand, the
article that NewsMax is citing stated:
Versions = Differences in CD/SYG laws among the various states which
have these laws
Versions is NOT referring to differences between CD and SYG laws
within the same state, which is what NewsMax should have corrected,
but they didn't.

In summation, a typical Patriot Flamer FAIL.

So kids, what did we learn from this thread:

1) Patriot keeps sidestepping an explanation for his delusional &
conspiratorial thread title about "State Run Media". I blame the
Meth.

2) Newsmax stated "Versions of these laws, also referred to as the
"Castle Doctrine" because they
allow citizens to use force protect their homes, are in effect in 30
states including Florida."
Patriot tried to squirm outta this one by pathetically claiming
Newsmax (actually Reuters, but NewsMax didn't correct this) meant
versions between Castle Doctrine and Stand Your Group, which doesn't
even make sense from the cite paragraph - no, clearly Newsmax meant
different versions of these laws among different states. And so
Patriot clearly lied.

3) > Your squirming has failed...
Patriot trying to hijack Karl-Rove style my description of his actual
squirming in this thread means, even thru his Meth-induced fog, he has
realized he screwed-up big time, and failed. Thread is done, Patriot
has failed, what else is new.

NewsMax never claimed they were the same. NewsMax stated that
"VERSIONS OF" Stand Your Ground laws were "also referred to as the
"Castle Doctrine."

What part of "VERSIONS OF" suggests to you that any two items compared

Butt-boi, you Dumb-ass, update your crappy "Hall" scam archives - I
already kicked your girlfriend Patriot's butt upstream in this very
thread with a response to Patriot's pathetic weasely lie concerning
"versions of"
A reminder for you, Butt-boi, from just a few posts above:
"STOP right there, Patriot you lying Meth-head - now, LOOK at the
entire context from the Reuters article that NewsMax didn't bother to

You don't get paid the amount that Steve "Unlike Some People" Doocy
gets paid to lie* Butt-boi, so shut up and fix your falsehoods and
lies strewn through-out your archives, Buttster.

*Reminder: http://tpmdc.talkingpointsmemo.com/2012/04/fox-news-steve-doocy-corrects-fabricated-obama-quote.php
Of course Doocy finally offered a half-ass apology after leaving that
incorrect quote out there to circulate for days. Hmm, sounds like
Patriot, no wait, sorry, Patriot Games IS a half-ass apology of a
human.

alt.politics.demoscrats.senate? Fine, whatever, I checked the link -
you posted the same damn useless crap, Patriot -which completely side-
stepped the issue as is par for you - that you posted above (your
post from Apr 18, 8:41 am). You provided nothing new or useful in
those posts, besides proving the fact that you squirmed, side-stepped,
and lied you all throughout this thread, Patriot. Yep, that's what
you're doing.

You're the one with an issue if you believe there's a state-run media
- that's Tracey12 & Phantom level crazy. Yet, you never explained your
statement...Hmmm
And again, once your lie concerning law versions between different
states was exposed, I see you're in no mood to explain why you lied
and got caught doing it. Again, Hmmm

And with this canned statement of his, Patriot Flamer admits he got
busted lying in this thread, and has nothing to counter with. Game
over for him, as usual.
Oh well, Patriot, accept the fact that you're a busted liar and a
