Iraq Accepts U.N. Inspection Plan

By EDITH M. LEDERER, Associated Press Writer

UNITED NATIONS (AP) - Iraq, facing a Friday deadline and the threat of war,
has accepted a tough new U.N. resolution that will return weapons inspectors
to the country after nearly four years, the country's U.N. ambassador said.

"The letter says that Iraq will deal with Security Council resolution 1441
despite its bad contents," Ambassador Mohammed Al-Douri said Wednesday.

"We are prepared to receive the inspectors within the assigned timetable,"
he said. "We are eager to see them perform their duties in accordance with
international law as soon as possible."

In the letter, Iraq reiterates that it has no weapons of mass destruction,
Al-Douri said.

"We explained in the letter the whole Iraqi position saying that Iraq ...
has not and will not have any mass destruction weapons, so we are not
worried about the inspectors when they will be back," he said

And when they find out that he's lying, what then?

Will you join your fellow countrymen in rooting out the nukes? Or will you
stand with Saddam?

Just for argument sake what is Bush going to do if it is found out
that Iraq indeed has no weapons of mass destruction? Not that I
believe they don't but what if by chance they really don't? What new
scheme will he devise to take the nations eyes off of the fact that he
dropped the Ball when it comes to getting Osama bin Laden?

Wouldn't GWB have a red face if indeed Iraq permits inspection and
no weapons of mass destruction are found???
Nope, a liar and ignoramus has no problems with such details; GWB will
then define slingshots and rubber bands as WMDs.
After all, the AssHead has to do SOMETHING to distract the people
from his failure to find bin Laden, his failure to create a "new regime" for
Afghanistan, his failure to save the economy, his illegal actions in Harken
and Cheney's in Halliburton...........

Of course he's lying. I just posted the text of the letter to
Annan, and everyone can read for themselves -- Iraq will "deal" with
the inspectors, have implied conditions, are playing the
"safeguarding" of "sovereignty" (weapons sites they don't want
exposed), tying their (fake) cooperation to other issues, and so on.
No "yes, we agree" or "No, we refuse," but instead nothing but
horseshit and additional game-playing. IRAQ HAS JUST GIVEN THE GOOD
GUYS THE JUSTIFICATION FOR ATTACKING.

I would think that he (Bush) would declare a victory, talk about having the will

Just my guess.

I don't think anything but regime change in Iraq will be accepted as
victory in "conservative" America. I think most of the swing votes the
GOP captured in the last elections will reject all other prospects
also.

I would disagree. It is one thing to pressure the UN and allied nations to
re-establish the inspections under new, stricter UN resolutions, but if, by some
chance, Saddam actually plays ball and allows the "unrestricted" inspections to take
place, I think he will have saved himself. Even if a WMD project is discovered and
destroyed, he may be safe, as long as he allows the discovery and destruction to
take place. What will end his regime is the slightest hint of obstruction or deceit.
If he is in compliance, I think the political cost of an invasion, both domestic and
international, will be too much for Bush to pay.
