A "school stabbing" with a screwdriver killed a Houston 13-year-old in a
government middle school yesterday.
The killer is expected to be charged with murder. The murder weapon was a
four-inch screwdriver.
The two students involved had been in a feud for weeks preceding the murder.
The school involved is described by Houston-area media as gang-ridden.
The police have complained that the school was not cooperative with them and
did not notify them as soon as the incident occurred.
And why wasn't this "school murder" in your local paper today? Because
it didn't involve a gun - and thus didn't fit the liberal agenda.

A 13-year-old-boy was fatally stabbed in the head with a screwdriver
during a fight with a fellow student in a southeast Houston middle
school hallway Wednesday.
Other students in the crowded hallway had encouraged the two combatants
to continue to fight, a detective said.
The victim, eighth-grader Samuel Avila, was stabbed about 8:30 a.m. at
Deady Middle School at 2500 Broadway and died in Ben Taub Hospital just
after 4 p.m., said hospital spokeswoman Tina Foster.
The 14-year-old seventh-grade assailant, whose name was withheld because
of his age, was arrested at the scene and turned over to juvenile
authorities. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly
weapon.
Investigators said the charge may be upgraded to murder.
Meanwhile, Houston Independent School District and Houston Police
Department officials were trying to determine why the HPD homicide
division was not officially notified until a few hours after the attack.
HISD armed officers assigned to the school arrived in the second-floor
hallway within minutes and took the suspect into custody from a teacher
who had caught him.
However, homicide detectives were not sent to the crime scene until
sometime before noon.
"We responded as soon as we were called," said HPD spokesman Robert
Hurst.
He said HPD Chief C.O. Bradford plans to discuss the delay with HISD
Police Chief Bruce Marquis and try to ensure that it does not recur.
HISD spokesman Terry Abbott said he was not aware of any delay in
reporting the incident to Houston police.
"I was there, and our officers told me very early on they were in
contact with HPD," Abbott said.
The attack occurred as students were walking from homeroom to
first-period classes. Abbott said.
Ben Taub doctors said Avila's wound was too devastating for him to
survive.
"Unfortunately, it was an extremely unlucky injury," said Dr. Matthew
Wall, chief of trauma. "It immediately caused irreversible damage to his
brain."
Because the investigation was ongoing, Wall said he could not comment on
the injury's exact nature.
HPD homicide Detective Waymon Allen said Avila was stabbed in the left
side of the head with a 4-inch screwdriver that police recovered.
Avila and the assailant had had a dispute for two or three weeks, Allen
said

It also didn't involve multiple murders. Kind of hard to kill a lot of
people with a screw driver.

Bullshit.
No-gun Japan has had at least two multiple murders in its big cities within
the past two months by guys armed with kitchen knives - so a nut sure could do
it with a screwdriver, particularly if he sharpened it.

That is funny, has been in my local paper and on my local news website all
week. That fact that it did not involve a gun is pointless. It just serves
to further demonstrate the problems with our youth and our school system.
Believe me, if the kid that did this had been able to sneak a gun into the
school he would most likely have done so, but it is even more scary to
picture a 13 year old stabbing another student to death.

We need to stop blaming "the Liberals" or "the Conservatives" and all take
responsibility for where our society has gone and work together to improve
it, what good does blaming someone else really do any of us?

And what would you rather face, A man with gun trying to kill you or a man
with a knife?

If it was the typical criminal attack - a sneak attack - it wouldn't matter
much.
The higher stopping power of the gun would be made up for by the
noiselessness of the knife; don't you remember testimony during the O.J. trial
about hitmen preferring knives for that reason?

We "all" are not responsible.
We "all" did not parent the murderer. We "all" aren't school administrators
who let convicted felons attend regular class - so many that 1 in 83 kids in
Maryland schools are on probation at any given time. We "all" aren't judges
who no longer will jail kid felons short of their first rape or murder
conviction - but instead abuse schools as halfway houses by putting said felons
on probation conditioned on school attendance.
The truth is that most "all" of us have damn little control over the reason
some kid felon like Dylan Klebold is on probation instead of in reform school
where he belongs - because we aren't judges; the truth is that most "all" of us
have damn little control over who goes to government schools even if on
probation for a felony; the truth is that we have no control over how other
parents raise their children - or instead allow them to grow up feral as Susan
Klebold did.

True, but we were talking in the context of multiple murders. Kind of hard
to murder the second one secretly. And more people survive stabbings than
shootings. Assasins are trained to do it right. The average criminal would
not be so efficient.

And the truth it that conservatives have so choked off public spending that
there is no place to put these problem kids. Juvenile halls are full.
Alternative shcools are full. Probation officers have too many cases to
handle.Counceling and intervention are very limited. If you don't want them
in your schools you better stop bitching and come up with an alternative

Bullshit.
As a trial lawyer, I can tell you that damn few kids are getting reform
school any more; judges won't lock up a kid felon until his first rape or
murder conviction.
Alternative schools? The truth is that there are more such places than ever
- if only because such schools were nonexistant 25 years ago and few were
around even 20 years ago.
