Hey... wait a minute!

That implies that I lied about McCain.

Even McCain admits to being a War Criminal:

"It's a difficult thing to say. But now that I've seen what the bombs
and the napalm did to the people on our ship, I'm not so sure that I
want to drop any more of that stuff on North Vietnam."

I don't take anything at face value.

But those media clips of young Kerry calling our soldiers in Vietnam
"war criminals" who acted like "Genghis Khan" (his words, not mine)
weren't faked.

Of course they weren't faked. And he, myself, and tons of other folks
have things which they said in haste in their youth that are now much
regretted. That wasn't the incident to which I referred - it was the
jerks who claimed that Kerry was basically a coward and deserved none
of his medals. But feel free to play in the sewer with the rest of the
lowlifes on both sides. Go ahead - slosh around in it - the smell
doesn't get any better.

According to whom -- you? The guys who were with him, with very few
exceptions (and with no exceptions for the Silver Star), didn't have a
problem with his medals, who are you to say otherwise?

And as for him being a coward, well, that's just laughable, downright
laughable. It also shows how much you know on the subject, from that
comment and the one about the medals -- apparently not much.

Yea, that would be great if we were talking about Vietnam. HInt: we
were discussing the whole idea of "go along get along" where countries
just turn a blind eye to everything they see. Hitler, Mao,
Stalin...They loved people that believed this bs.

Yea, that would be real funny if you didn't realize all the negative
effects America had by pulling out of Vietnam. (millions murdered,
genocide, reeducation camps, region went to shit) Oh, but we did get

Documents declassified by the Vietnamese government in 1995 revealed
that 5.1 million people died *during* Hanoi's conflict with the United
States.

Four million civilians died in the North and South. Total military
casualties were put at 1.1 million and 600,000 wounded. Hanoi concealed
the figures during the war to avoid demoralizing the population.

It's more free and open than you apparently think.

The numbers I have heard are a bit lower than that (about 3 million)
but still in the millions.

Outside of the mass murder at Hue during Tet of 1968, do you have any
other examples of mass murders?

> How many died in the 50+ years of crushing poverty that followed?

Actually, it's been 33 years since the war ended -- 1975 -- so that's
30 + years.

I'm going for nutcase. The entire country, as of today, has a
population of about 85 million. At the end of the war it was about 32
milllion. Even the staunchest rightwing, anti-communist Vietnamese in
California would roll over laughing at your ridiculous claim of 20-30
million killed since 1975.

By the way, millions of people in Vietnam have phones and/or internet.

Your question is a loaded one based on the erroneous
premise that the Americans were *seriously* fighting
the Vietnam War in order to save the Vietnamese from
communism.

Vietnam was a showcase war for the U.S. meant entirely
to demonstrate to its allies at a comfortable distance
that it had their backs -- it was the chosen limited
"hot war" that allowed the maintainance of the alliance
structure constructed by the Americans after WW2.
That was its only and entire purpose.

The pretense that it was all done for a moral imperative
goal of "saving" the Vietnamese is ludicrous. The U.S. was
merely pursuing the war as a necessary part of a broader
geopolitical strategy that had nothing to do with the
particulars of the war -- the total war that would have
been necessary to defeat the North Vietnamese was always
possible but was never even seriously considered for
implementation because total war made no sense in light
of the goals the U.S. actually had for engaging in the war.

War protests at home were not responsible for "hampering"
a "victory" -- "victory" was never part of the strategy
to begin with.

So, the answer to your question of whether the Vietnamese
were better off because the Americans pulled out is
"absolutely" -- what can possibly be worse than being
a geopolitical pawn that is being relentlessly bombed
by the most powerful army on earth?

It doesn't appear you are talking about since the war started, but
when it ended.

Beats me.

By the way, "crushing poverty" isn't quite the correct description of
the current state of the-way-things-are in Vietnam today. If you took
your blinders off, you might know that.

Please cite one example of someone who was shot for going to the wrong
portal -- just one.

You can't, as such a thing has never happened.

Well, there are about 80,000 foreigners living in Vietnam today, and I
don't recall a single one of them dying from this "crushing poverty"
you seem to think is so prevalent.

And this "sweatshop lifestyle", well, what exactly is that?

We were talking about how long they were living in poverty(which was
extended by the US's pullout).

Yea, it is.

The current state of Vietnam is that commie leaders are using their
people as cheap labor(sweatshops) to make themselves rich. And if
anyone steps out of line and it's off to some gulag.

VIetnamese rotting in jail because they said or did something you take

How do you know?

Seriously, are we(not including your apologist ass) supposed to take
the word of people that will give someone 12 years(if he is lucky it
will just be 12 years) in a gulag for using the web.

You claim mass muders, therefore you should be the one proving your
claim.

Your inability to do so speaks volumes for your credibility.

Thank you for the five year old article.

While I damn sure am not going to give this sorry-ass government a
thumbs-up for their overall performance, you are posting absolute
false statements about how it is over here.

You make statements even the anti-communist Vietnamese in California
would say are false.

> Note: If he wasn't well known we probably wouldn't have even heard of

Oh, I thought he would be shot. I mean, you seem to think people over
here are shot for a variety of crimes.

You really need to update you knowledge about Vietnam. This country is
far from perfect, but you don't seem to have a clue as to how it
really is over here.

Are you really so ignorant as to compare Vietnam with North Korea?

I'd like to be clear on this. Is that what you are doing? If so, we
have nothing to discuss, as, if that is what you think, then you are
hopelessly ignorant as to the way it is over here. This isn't to say
you are lying, but just ignorant of the facts.

I have numerous friends who are former POWs who would strongly
disagree with you on a number of your comments.

This is, by no means, to say things are peachy keen over here, but
they damn sure are not as you portray them.

Thank you for making my point -- that things are on the upswing. That
would be apparent if you look at the same figures for 5, 10 and 15
years ago.

Ahh, so someone shows you that they can live over here, and your reply

I just did!

The government over here, in many respects, is HOPELESSLY INEPT, and
quite CORRUPT in many areas.

Now let's see if someone comes knocking at my door, Ok?

Korea has had huge head start, time-wise, and in addition they did not
have a US trade embargo aimed at them for 20 years. Big difference.

I would see stagnant growth(per capita) and a population boom and lots
of poverty. Truth: To many people and not enough jobs. All of this
makes your country ripe for sweatshops...Which is why it's filled with
em.

To speak openly about anything without threat of going to jail. Plus,
it means your government likes to cover up all the bad things it's
doing...And lie about current conditions.

suppression and intimidation.

Yea, they(your communist leaders) are like the mafia...Anyone gets in

stagnant.

And it's not my country, pal. I live here, but it isn't my country. I

I think I am done with this back-and-forth. If anyone is reading this,

Yes, it's healthy and prosperous....Now that the US has taken over and

It's a small, developing country. The point isn't the totals, it's
the trend.

Developing into a shithole full of sweatshops. Jane Fonda should be
proud.

Which shows that the country is increasingly poor, the people have no
good jobs, no future and no way to make their lives better.

Like I said, Manning and Doug were full of shit, the countries/
region's decline can be traced to the withdrawel of American troops.

Hi Guys,

I am a Vietnam Vet(ex-carrier sailor), an independent and African
American. Yes, the North Vietnamese broke McCain while he was a guest
at the Hanoi Hilton. He signed a confession that began: I AM A WAR
CRIMINAL!

If my memory derves me correctly, there was talk about trying him for
collaborating with the enemy! His father was an admieal at that time
show he was able to slide by and the media has never really
scrutinized this. So, for all those out there who say Straight-talk
McCain is more like Bull-shit McCain. Do your homework, fellas and you
would be surprised!!

BTW...I had 6 years active duty and honorably 1and I signed no
confessions
