Origins of the Spork (not in the FAQ)

Well, I don't know if this is where the spork originated from but upon
visiting my grandmother I went to fetch a spoon from the drawer and what
should I see but a silver, antique..SPORK! Oddly enough she referred to it
as something along the lines of "Grapefruit Spoon". Now I don't know how
common these are in Canada (where my grandmother hails from) but I know this
is the first time I had heard the term. Any insight on whether or not the
spork is really a descendant of the grapefruit spoon?

Hmm..
Are you thinking of a metal implement with a half-sphere concave part, with
a wibbly faux-fork part. These are used over here (in the uk) for making
balls of melon etc. I am not sure if they would be classed as sporks, as
although they are also useless for forking with this is not the purpose of
the fork part.
