I don't know if you have ever run into this, but someone has acne at
the time you are shooting them. Maybe your taking a picture of your
son, or daughter. Maybe you're taking a picture of a friends kid
because they know you take great pictures. Perhaps you're shooting a
teens Senior Pictures for High School.

Whatever the situation is, they really don't want the acne in the
photo. This is the technique I use in my studio to correct these
kinds of problems. It's very fast and does a nice job. The video is
16 minutes long, but the actual full editing of the image took about 8
minutes to do an even better job than the video shows.

This is a truly worst case scenario to show the potential of the
technique. Most of the time, cleaning up the skin without a plastic
look is a matter of a few moments. I offer it just to share because I
like doing that.

If the video doesn't start on its own when you click the link, there
is an option in the upper right of the screen to view the video in
another resolution. Click that and it should work.

Thanks, for your interesting tutorial. It also serves as a reminder that
cloning should take place on a cloning layer.

There was not quoted text. It was speech in the video.

Whatever.

I posted the link to provide a technique that could be used fairly
easily. I didn't care when I did it whether it was 'liked', or
whether the presentation was liked, or whether I was liked. I still
don't care. I don't expect to care.

The only valid basis for criticism has to relate to the intent of the
video, which is as stated. Any other opinion you may hold about it is
irrelevant. Watch the vid, try the technique and let me know if it
was effective for you in helping create more pleasing images whether
it is for customers, family, or friends.

Feel free to get back to me with something that isn't a non-sequitor
in the context.

In general, it is easier to apply a little makeup before you start
shooting.

I refuse to do that. I've never worn make-up when photographing
someone, and I'm not going to start now.

I mentioned that in a normal situation, there would be makeup and that
makes things even better. The point of using an image like that one
is to show that it can take care of extreme cases quickly and will
take care of the simplest case almost instantly.

While effective, make-up isn't a complete pancea. That is very flat,
straight on lighting and it minimizes the actual appearance of the
skin erruptions. Most photographs that people take aren't lit like
that and candid/snapshot subjects aren't usually prepped to have
their picture taken.

Because the skin erruptions stand proud of the surface of the skin,
any kind of light that provides modelling for the subject will
emphasize them for the same reason. Makeup can't really take care of
that. If the make-up is too heavy in order to make the blemishes
'dissappear', a lot of the 'natural' look of the skin gets wiped out.
Using make-up just to handle getting an even skin tone and then
correcting the unsightly erruptions in post produces a more natural
and pleasing look. The reason for that is properly applied make-up
preserves skin texture and you are using that preserved texture to
correct other areas. The results are not 'plastic' or clownish.

Trowelling on make-up is easier for the photographer, no doubt about
it, but a quick and easy post process that works produces a higher
quality image that subjects are invariably pleased with and most
photographers would be proud of.
