Can someone explain why this is so:

My 1200x2400 48 bit scanner will not replicate color properly. For example,
we have photo's from Mexico. The water is a turquoise blue. However, when
scanned (both with color correction on and off), the water is not like the
original pic. It is a deeper (purplish) blue, but not turquoise at all. I
am also scanning at 300 dpi.

Thanks

The resolution you're scanning at has nothing to do with anything except the
size of the picture after it's scanned. So, that's not the problem. I'm not
familiar with Epson scanners specifically, but it's not unusual to have to
tweak a picture in Photoshop or other software after it's scanned. It's also
possible that the scanner is doing a fine job, but your computer monitor is
not displaying the colours exactly right. Before you do anything, you need
to calibrate your monitor. You may already have something in your image
software that can help you do that, or if not, you can download some free
utilities for that.

I have my monitor calibrated and I have had friends view the images as well. The blue is very off.
I've experimented with tweaking the images with Photoshop, but adjusting the blue is a problem to "near natural" is a problem for me.

This Epson is suppose to be a more than adequate scanner, so I can't understand why it can't reproduce the colors more accurately.

I guess you're way ahead of me about the calibration :)

Good luck with finding the problem.

Be patient.
When I first started in the digital arena, it seemed to take FOREVER to
calibrate my system, then when I used a service bureau for my first analogue
print from digital information, even more time. It is worth it. Now when I
go to get analogue prints done from my digital media it is PERFECT every
time. I have prints done years apart and you can not tell WHEN they were
done - perfect matches.
Just hang in there.
Yours,
Tom
