Good shots. The first one is composed well except for the railing in
the bottom left corner. You should have cropped that out. Good
scene, good color.

The second one is weak because the rocky cliff dominates the photo and
there's not much interest there. Too much foreground of all-the-same
looking beach and little, tiny dots of people.

Try for shots with something of interest to anchor your shot. A
family on the beach, wind-blown beach umbrellas, a kid playing in the
surf...something of interest. The beach is a background, not a
subject.

Sure, Charles, anything for you. I took this last week. I call it
"The Grope".

suffice.

I prefer a more imaginative use of sand and sea.

Oh, yeah, of street corners and hedges. I forgot.

I'm looking ahead and exploring creative angles. That's a different way of
working and no comment on your gaudy snaps. Maybe if you weren't so
pedestrian and defensive you'd see that.

I'm not really looking at the bums and tits in the photos. I'm looking at
the place and the people - the sensuality of the light and the spontaneous
spark of personality. Sand and smiles, dear. Sand... and... smiles.

I've been reflecting on a GF and some of the crappo scenery around my way
and how to draw out or see what's there. So, this isn't entirely frivolous.
Just another muse to get past the log jam.

And what do you know of my "gaudy snaps"? If you take a photo of
something gaudy like that mannikin, and process it correctly, it is
*supposed* to come across as gaudy.

You have any idea of what Orlando, Florida is like? Flat, dull, and
filled with strip malls...but I find things to photograph. Shot this
morning was an art festival (many good shots), a dog agility
competition (no keepers), and a bicycle polo match under and underpass
in driving rain (a few good shots). Mostly - lately - I do candid
people shots and render them in black and white. Not gaudy at all.

Go downtown - or to the high street in your village or whatever you
have there - and shoot candid shots of people. Stand in front of that
wall of graffiti and catch some old codger in a flat hat walking by.
Go to a market town in your area and photograph the people in the
stalls.

Drive down some country roads and photograph some old cars, buildings,
or farm equipment. There are photo ops all around you.

Post 'em and I'll give you a fair critique. Fairer than you give
Sisker or Miguel.

I don't care much for competitions or routine comment. That's just a
different way of working and engagement. So, anyone looking for an argument
punching at air and wasting their time.

There's reasons why I posted a Larson sketch and boobies against Miguel's
pictures, and posted some old crap and kicked the snot out of Sisker. It's
as valid as anything else and taking it personally would be a mistake.

http://www.guardian.co.uk/artanddesign/2010/mar/18/deutsche-borse-photography-conceptual-art

At the other end of the scale some people take the conceptual and indirect a
little too far. There's a definite trend emerging of putting art before
photography with all the meaningless elitism that implies.

You've demonstrated, time and time again, that you don't understand
the concept of critique. Honest critique isn't saying "That photo is
crap". Good critiques spell out *why* that photo is crap and suggest
ways to improve it or suggestions for future compositions.

You didn't kick the snot out of John. You just made some snotty
comments.

You may consider "The Shoot-In" to be a competition. I don't. I
consider it a showcase for the participants and a way for them to
learn what others see, or don't see, in their photographs.

Do you mean the best of the group won't get to drive a Bentley for ten
years?
How about one year?

You're flipping out again because you're not getting the sort of response
you want to the schedule you demand. That's all this is about.

Why makes you think everyone wants to spooge over a historical image or give
routine "critique" any random can do? Where's the benefit?

In three posts you've been duped into chasing parked cars. That's not
creativity it's habit. If I wanted to watch trained seals I'd visit the zoo.
