Ameritech Landline Number

The other day I dialed the wrong phone number and I heard a modem
kick
on, so I wrote the phone number down and figured I would look into it
later. I then entered the number into a "reverse lookup" search
engine. It says it is an Ameritech Landline. I live in Podunk and we
don't have any internet options other than modem or satellite, so I'm
thinking it may be some type connection to a larger network. I know
absolutely squat about phones. Any ideas what this number can be?

Ameritech has landlines all over the country for Dial-Up access.
