Beyond The Wall

Let us remember
those in wheelchairs
limbless and alone
in hospitals and homes
wishing white crosses
marked where they are.

Let us remember
those in straight chairs
mindless and alone
in hospitals and homes
wishing white crosses
marked where they are.

Let us remember
those having no chairs,
no hospitals and no homes
wishing white crosses
marked where they are.

Each of them reminds
each one of us
that what we have
may have been bought
with their limbs,
their minds
and their lives.

Such heroes among us
know that their deaths
might have been
easier for all to bear
than a reminder of their
wishing white crosses
marked where they are.
