Gee, it must be nice to run a company, engage in shady, unregulated
dealings, kept Exec bonuses, see the company fail because it was
mismanaged, and the government rush to your aid.
How hypocritical and appalling, while displaced Katrina victims still
don't have a place to live.
What a joke, this country. I'm supposed to be proud because we have
all this freedom and blah blah blah?
I'm embarrassed to be a citizen. Apparently the "little guy" is of no
importance.
People right now need medical aid and the government doesn't rush to
THEIR beck and call.
Yeah I know, hands are being greased.
I wonder who will bail out the government?
BOfL
The Queen will bail out wall street.
Great read. Thanks immortal! Sure it's on a democratic site, but
still, valid points.
Fascism. Very interesting.
And to know I'm not alone, thinking that it's wrong to give $700
bailout while kids dont have health insurance.
> $700 billion ... to bailout
We all wish. 700 billion is just an opener.
> I'm embarrassed to be a citizen. Apparently the "little guy" is of no

This term "little guy" is a metaphor that must be broken. I heard the
same type of thing used just yesterday during a Senate 'debate', the
specific was 'minnows' ("the little guys") who were being eaten by
'sharks' and 'whales' ("the big guys").
Bullshit.
This is crime. Not a metaphor, not just being bitchy or whiny, it is
crime as holding up a 7-11 with a gun is a crime. It is not 'big guys'
against 'little guys', it is criminal acts made legal by criminal
accomplices.
The government wants MORE money to buy up the 'bad' so they can sell it
back cheap (aka: good) to the same fuck-wits who caused the 'bad' to
begin with. Metaphorically, they are a disease.
What money? Taxes are obvious but the other way is just to print it up
which IS also a tax in that it devalues the money now held so it costs
more to buy stuff making this, essentially, an additional cost.
But wait, there's more.........
In Sec. 8 of this "Treasury’s Financial-Bailout Proposal to Congress"
that is so "urgently needed" to hurry pass Congress it states:
"Decisions by the Secretary pursuant to the authority of this Act are non-
reviewable and committed to agency discretion, and may not be reviewed by
any court of law or any administrative agency"
"MAY NOT BE REVIEWED BY ANY COURT OF LAW" WTF!!!
If it can not come under the review of law it is outside law therefore a
Constitutional crime and a direct violation of the oath of office.
There is no ambiguity here only lies to make it seem so.

If there is no dissenting congress and nothing to cause the Supreme
Court to consider, then there is no Constitution. Our Constitution
exists in the realm of affirmation. To not challenge the violation of
oath of office is to affirm the impotence of the Constitution.
You cannot cry RAPE, when you are the one who got down on all fours and said
please shove that baseball bat where the sun don't shine.
This problem has been extant in the USA for decades, all the way back to the
70's.
And yet, every sign, every crisis event pointing out the obvious, has been
ignored repeatedly and the American people have continued with the "american
dream" and been not only willing victims, but active accomplices to the
*crime* you now only want to lay at the feet of some people.
If you're going to keep giving the wolves supervision over the sheep, it's
simply pathetic to now be crying BAD WOLF, BAD.
There is nothing wrong with Capitalism. It has it's ups and downs, and it
also comes with some risk. Nothing is perfect.
What the problem is here, is the American Version of Capitalism, and a
totally dysfunctional corrupted Political System that is the root cause of
that.
Prance around like a saint and find some bad guys to blame all you want, but
everyone in the USA would make a significant contribution to the solution if
they stood in front of a mirror, pointed their finger at themselves and said
repeatedly:
"What is really important in Life? Time to get YOUR act together bucko, and
stop being an intolerant greedy self centred immature ignorant uninformed
uncaring materialistic racist fundamentalist extremist and arrogant ego head
trip."
In other words, first be nice and then take responsibility for yourself AND
your national community of real people.
Is that a bit too strong a medicine to swallow? Depends on how bad the
disease is. ;-)
"signifies a rough composite of stereotypes, prejudices and criticisms
towards Americans or the United States."
"In Australia, Hans Redeker, currency chief at BNP Paribas has said
Australia would have to generate 4 percent of its GDP to meet
payments
to foreign holders of its assets. National Australia Bank on July 29,
2008 cut a £400 million bond sale by two thirds following investor
flight and opted for a 100 percent write-off on a clutch of "senior
strips" of AAA-rated collateralized debt obligations (CDO) worth £450
million. Approvals for loans to build or buy homes and apartments
decreased 3.7 percent in June of 2008. Housing prices in Australia
fell in the second quarter of 2008 for the first time in about three
years. Consumer confidence in Australia fell to a 16-year low in July
and retail sales fell 1 percent in June. High profile casualties of
the credit crunch include Allco Finance, MFS, ABC Learning, Babcock &
Brown and Centro while numerous other institutions have lost a
significant part of their value."

Democracy Now is not a "democratic site," it is a leftist
site. There's a big difference.
*curmudgeon*
"The best read illiterate in the country"
Riiiiiiiiight. It's my fault for being born into the United States.
It's my fault that the political system is corrupt, the system that I
vote in, because there is nothing else to do.
Please, the people like me, who don't have power, aren't to blame.
Your answer is pathetic: Blame the slave.
I have a family. I'm supposed to what... "rise up" ? Make a
difference? How, pray tell? I vote, that's all I can do.
I'm not going to live in a cave like an uncivilized animal, nor will I
leave the country.
The fact is, crooks and corruption are behind the bailout and it sucks
for us average, everyday joes.
-----------------------------------------------------
S: reply
I understand your justifiable frustration, and anger! I really do. Of course
it sucks for the average Joe, but you need to try and understand the
difference between someone like myself saying to "take responsibility" and
hearing that as blaming or saying you are at fault.
There is a BIG difference. I am not laying the fault at your feet, nor
blaming you. But what is needed is much much more than just *voting* if you
really want to stop the crooks and corruption that are at fault. It's not
your fault, the average joe, if you have been conned ..... yet it;s still
only up to you to fix it because no one else will. The crooks, and con
artists sure won't.
McCain and Obama sure won't fix it either without real grassroots change,
and nor are they to blame anymore than the average joe.
Only the good will of American people , the average joes, the wage earners,
the college graduates, the lawyers, the businessmen and women, moms pops and
grandparents, and yes decent politicians can fix it.
The fact is, that even a homeless person in the USA is still often better
off than the majority of people on this planet!!! Thank god, or whoever you
want, that you weren't born in the west bank, or zimbabwe, or burma, india,
china, russia, or the sudan in darfur.
There's several hundred million people just like you in the USA, so don't
tell me you're a powerless slave! You are not. To stop acting like you are
all slaves, is the way forward.
It's not as bad as you think, unless everyone throws up their hands and
gives up. The politcal process as I said before is severely broken and
utterly corrupted. The media is a key part of that broken system. That's why
you are always at war somewhere on this planet. Fix that political system,
denounce the false illusion of the American dream fed by Corporate America
and fake public figures, and 90% of the job is done.
Just be prepared to spend a decade or two to really fix it, and rediscover
the true values that America was originally founded upon. IOW, get back to
basics, and dump all the BS. imho.
cheers and good luck,
sean

The government has a symbiotic relationship with popular information
industries (news and entertainment) and each function best by
simplifying their products which means the public will learn nothing of
substance about the people who really run this country and how they do
it - neither the information industry or the government would gain by
submitting to self-disclosure
Anyone who attempts to counter this symbiotic pair will not do so
through the pair because becoming newsworthy is to have your message
neutered - although from time to time a sucker will be sacrificed to
freshen the TRULY most valuable industry in the USA - government/media
Wall Street is becoming second place
It's the new beginning of the new end
The 'news' does not tell America what to think but it has a lot to do
with what America thinks about
Thanks, but can you tell me something I don't already know? :)
I suppose you're placing yourself in the "hands up I surrender" group as
nothing can be done. Fair enough. It's your choice to make.
You do not know me well enough to presume such. To promote a means by which
we CAN make a difference would be interpreted by the US powers to be
subversion or terrorism: that's what they do now because it's cheaper than
shooting us. The revolution will not be advertised.
Ah, ok. I took your original post personal and thought you were
blaming us for the problem.
OK, fine. Then how does the average joe change things in America?
Politics corrupts. We are ALL average joes at birth. But then once we
get in office with the desire to change things, that's when things
change YOU and you become corrupted by the system.
So what do we do to change the future of America when we're held
hostage by politicians and corrupt traders/bankers/elite?
The only thing I can think of is some grassroots movement, some kind
of rebellion. But the government will stomp that out quickly with
military force.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
S: It's a dilemma isn't it?
All other western nations have politicians too ... they face the same
"politics corrupts" issue, some better than others.
What makes you believe you are being held *hostage* by anyone?
There's point in changing the future, it can't be done. All anyone can ever
do is change what they do, right now in the present.
Each average Joe, when motivated, adds up to lots of average Joes.
You have local govt reps, State reps, and Federal Reps & Senators. You have
email ... when was the last time to sent an email to anyone on any issue and
told them what you think?
What about your neighbours and family?
You're online, when was the last time you researched alternatives from
around the world for issues that confront you personally?
80 years ago and more, people used to go to town meetings, not to argue and
scream at each other but to listen to each others pov, and to invite quests
to talk about issues. This was their "entertainment" and socialising for the
week besides Church.
Every small town had more than one newspaper, run locally. Now, you can
access any newspaper in any town, or nation, or language and convert it into
english with the click of a button.
The options are endless ... the opportunites manifold, millions just like
you, and the squeeky hinge gets the oil.
Or ignore it all, and just be aware of what's going on around the place, and
focus on your situation, make sound choices for yourself and family and
community etc, and go with the flow.
I don't know, whatever works for you.
