packed up the kids and drove down to Byron Bay today.
we sat on the beach and kicked off our boots still keeping on the coats,
while back packers determinedly lay bikined in the winter sun.
I guess to some the feeble winter sun was warm indeed ,no doubt the sky
was blue and the sea a thousand billion reflections of it.
Hot or not it warmed this soul. I figure it is all a matter of
perspective isnt it.
Back on this mountain winter is beginning to bite. But I will hold that
image of sea smoothed rocks abstacted on the sand, of a thousand tiny
lights on the water.....and it will bring me back to warmer times..and I
will smile

You should try just plunging into a pile of snow and stay. There is nothing
I like better than lying deep-buried in snow and feel it melt around me.
Feeling the snow compressing under my weight, and feeling the cold sensation
through my skin. Wonderful. Of course, this will never do if you are not
fond of cold.

Perspective yes. But isn't it really a dualistic perspective that makes you
prefer sunny days over cold ones?
I used to be the most demanding weather person in the world. I refused to go
out unless it was 21,5 Celsius, clear sky, and not a wind moving (well,
almost). Then I decided to do some pain meditation. That is, when I was
meditating, I was focusing on my physical discomfort (if you don't feel any
when you meditate, it will definetely appear when you focus on it. Actually,
it's quite painful) when sitting, but instead of thinking 'ouw, this hurts'
and seeking to escape that, I just observed the pain. Observe it as my pain
would increase, the more I focussed on it. I would then observe my reaction
to it. The psychical agony rising as the pain becomes more and more
unbearable. The desperation starting to grow as you think 'the pain will
never go away. It will always be there'. But still just observing those
thoughts. Eventually, as the physical pain increased, my thoughts
disappeared, and I was simply observing the pain, without labeling it good
or bad.
The point is, that I learned to transfer that practice to other aspects of
my life, including the weather. I would just observe the cold wind as it
blew at me, observe the shivering sensation that would follow, without
labeling it good or bad. As time passed by, it happened per reflex and at
times I'm actually a bit surprised to hear when other people complain about
the cold wind that is blowing etc., as there are cases when I simply can't
relate to it; it simply doesn't feel cold. Eventually, I learned to transfer
that practice to all physical conditions, my emotions, events taking place
around me etc. (although I'm still working on the last two). Excellent
practice, that pain meditation.

I'm happy for you.

anders....I agree that neither hot or cold , cloudy or rainy makes no difference
and it is an attachment to our preferences etc ..I know that Anders. I have
seen 38 summers and 38 winters and I hope to see many more.I love them all.As I
have said before, a grey day serves to make the greens look brighter.A weather
report is just an observation of ..the weather the point is we all experience
the weather regardless of how it manifests .....thats all.
I come from a country where the summers reach over 40 degrees C. To me 15
degrees is cold that is all I meant by perspectives.

15 degrees? LOL. We start to wear shorts and go to the beach when it's about
15 degrees.

Well, I have heard terrible stories about your skill with a mop
handle. You wouldn't hit a man with glasses, would you? Well,
that would be typical for you brits. At least we have the
decency to get high on poisonous mushrooms before we go into
battle!

Of course I'd hit a man with glasses. You might have better eyesight than
me!
Eat your mushrooms and prep for battle ;o)

Arrh, already prepped up. Just drawed with the old Frisians (Belgians
nowadays). And I see the English (as if the other brits even qualified for
the EC) only won 2-0 against Malta! HAHAHA. Lets see who comes out on top
after the European Championship. My horn is ready to sound the battle; my
liquefied mushrooms are waiting in the fridge; and the war chants are
already getting started...... The glory days of the ferocious vikings are
far from over (although I do admit you launched a quite successful raid in
Copenhagen for the UEFA cup final).
