If you have your inventory in handwritten form (i.e., not on the computer),
then you will probably have to key it all in again.

As for what system to use, if you design it yourself you will probably want
to use a database management system like Microsoft Access. (You mentioned
Excel, so I figured you to be an Office user, hence the Access
recommendation.) Something on this scale would be difficult to set up in
Excel.
